Educator Update

Hello 4-H Families,

Happy 4-H month! October is recognized as National 4-H Month. Clubs from around the nation will participate in service activities and promote their clubs in a variety of ways. October 7-12 is National 4-H week. Keep an eye on the Dunn County Facebook Page and interact with the posts to show your 4-H pride!

Speaking of being proud, something we can all be proud of is our re-enrollment numbers. Currently 116 members and 29 volunteers have re-enolled! That is a 29% increase from this time last year! Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to re-enroll. If you haven't re-enrolled yet, please do so soon! Having accurate enrollment numbers helps your club leaders, and us at the extension office, to plan programs and better serve you. If you have questions about re-enrollment, please reach out to myself or your club leader.

This month's newsletter features some great county-wide programing. I would highly suggest you consider attending the Project Discovery Day and the Halloween Party! They are both new events this year, and I think they are going to be great!

Re-enrollment Is Now Open

Every year 4-H members and volunteers need to re-enroll on 4-H Online. Volunteers will also need to take one or two short refresher trainings. Volunteers will not be certified until the trainings are complete, and therefor are not allow to work with youth.

Please complete your re-enrollment as soon as possible so you do not miss out on any of the great 4-H opportunities.

Cedar Crest Ice Cream 4-H Flavor Contest

Cedar Crest Ice Cream and the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation have teamed up again to present the “Cedar Crest Ice Cream 4-H Flavor Creation Contest” for Wisconsin 4-H clubs. All Wisconsin 4-H clubs are eligible to submit their idea for a new ice cream flavor, along with a flavor description and interesting flavor name. Entries are accepted September 1, 2024, through November 15, 2024.

Five finalists are selected by a panel of Cedar Crest Ice Cream flavor experts. One flavor is awarded top honors and a $500 gift. The winning flavor makes its debut in parlors in the summer of 2025. All five finalists receive an ice cream party for their 4-H club.

4-H Thrive Survey

This fall, Wisconsin 4-H will be encouraging members (ages 13-18) to complete a survey about their 4-H experience. The survey will help your county educator and Wisconsin 4-H learn about the quality of their programs. The survey will be sent to all 4-H members by e-mail in the first week of November. Youth who complete the survey will be entered into a raffle to win a $25 gift card! For more information on the 4-H Thriving Model, visit the 4-H Thriving Model website below.

Upcoming Events, Programs, and Activities

New Family Zooms

This fall, we will begin offering bi-monthly zooms. The first one will be on October 17th at 7pm. They will be geared towards new families, but anyone who is looking for more information is welcome to attend. This first meeting will be an introduction to the 4-H program. It is also being offered to families who are interested in joining, so feel free to spread the word! You can sign using the form below.

County-Wide Halloween Party

Dust off your costumes, and get ready for a spooky good time at our County-Wide Halloween Party!

The Youth Activities Council is throwing a party for 4-H members in grades k-5. It will be on Tuesday, October 22nd at 6pm in the basement of the County Government Building. Midde and High School aged youth are invited to help the YAC run the event. Please email zachary.rozmiarek@wisc.edu if you would like to help out.

There will be carival games, crafts, movies, raffles, and more! 4-H and family friendly costumes are encourgaged (no gore, fake weapons, or super scary masks). Please fill out the form if you plan to attend. Registration is not required, but it will help us plan our event. See you there...if you dare!!!

Project Discovery Day

Saturday, November 2nd
9:30-noon
County Government Center
Members and potential members kindergarten and up

At the Project Discovery Day, you will get to try your hand at a wide variety of 4-H projects. We will have stations set up throughout the county government building where you can explore different projects. A few of the projects that will be offered are: Dogs, Small Animal, Lego, Cake Decoration, Shooting Sports, and Arts and Crafts. This event is being offered to non-members who are interested in joining 4-H, so tell your friends!

We are still looking for volunteers to lead a project. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Zac Rozmiarek.

County-Wide Meetings and Events

County-Wide Project meetings are open to any 4-H member who meets the age criteria. If you are unsure about adding a project area, these meetings are an excellent way to explore and learn more. Reach out to the extension office or project leaders for more information.

Support Opportunities

Trip Funding

The Dunn County Leaders Council is excited to help fund your 4-H trip or activity! The Leaders Council is committed to funding 25% of all state and national trips and activities. The Leaders Council may fund at greater amounts depending on the number of participants and budgetary allowances.

Youth Support Fund

The Youth Support Fund is largely supported by donations from community members and businesses. Its purpose is to reduce the cost barrier associated with 4-H events and activities. If you are planning to participate in a 4-H event and feel like you could benefit from this fund, reach out to the extension office at zachary.rozmiarek@wisc.edu for more information.
