Surgeon General Visits Nashville
Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University Medical Center hosted Grand Rounds with Dr. Vivek H. Murthy, U. S. Surgeon General, on Wednesday, June 22.  
Dr. Murthy's talking points focused on five areas to help address the opioid crisis in our country.
  1. Proper prescribing by all providers (MD, NP, PA)
  2. Educating the public
  3. Providing Naloxone to first responders and families
  4. Ensuring treatment is readily available
  5. Changing how the country thinks about addiction

Three Nashville Academy Doctors Selected for Leadership Training Program

A group of 12 physician leaders from around the state met in Monteagle earlier this month to learn about collaboration, influence, conflict management and negotiation through a leadership training program offered by the Tennessee Medical Association.  The following three NAM members were selected to participate in this second class of the Leadership Immersion Program, part of the John Ingram Institute for Physician Leadership:

Annette Kyzer, MD

Tennessee Health Care Innovation Initiative (THCII) will host Episode Design Feedback Sessions on Tuesday, July 19.
Episode feedback sessions are an opportunity for the public to comment on what is working well with each episode's clinical design and where providers would suggest changes for next year.

The episode design feedback sessions are open to anyone who RSVPs. THCII will hold feedback sessions on the clinical design of eight episodes according to the following schedule: 

  • 8:00 AM: Acute asthma exacerbation, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) acute exacerbation
  • 9:15 AM: Total joint replacement
  • 10:30 AM: Perinatal
  • 11:45 AM: Break
  • 12:15 PM: Acute exacerbation, Outpatient and non-acute inpatient cholecystectomy
  • 1:30 PM: Acute percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), Non-acute percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
  • 2:45 PM: Screening and surveillance colonoscopy
