HCH2023 Awards Nominations Are Open!

You can recognize a deserving colleague by nominating them for one of the Council's four Council-wide awards, which will be presented during the 2023 National Health Care for the Homeless Conference and Policy Symposium May 15-18 in Baltimore.

Click on each award below to learn more about criteria and how to submit a nomination:

Philip W. Brickner National Leadership Award, presented by the NHCHC Board of Directors to an individual who has significantly strengthened service and advocacy in addressing the health status of people experiencing homelessness. Deadline to nominate: March 10
Ellen Dailey Consumer Advocate Award, presented by the National Consumer Advisory Board to an outstanding consumer advocate who exemplifies courage and a passion for inclusion. Deadline to nominate: March 31
Willie J. Mackey National Medical Respite Award, presented by the Respite Care Providers' Network in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of medical respite care. Deadline to nominate: March 8
Karen Rotondo Award for Outstanding Service, presented by the HCH Clinicians' Network to an exemplary clinician who demonstrates vision and creativity in advancing the goals of ending and preventing homelessness. Deadline to nominate: March 8

Applications are also being accepted for the John N. Lozier Scholarship for New Members. Eligible applicants must be employed by an Organizational Member of the Council and have never attended a previous HCH National Conference. Scholarship applications are due March 7.

MAIN CONFERENCE May 16-17: Two days of concurrent breakout sessions. Also included: Keynote addresses, poster presentations and welcome reception, access to exhibitors and sponsors, site visits, and networking opportunities.

LEARNING LABS May 18: Half-day focus on one of four topics: Clinical Wound Care; Community Engagement & Trauma-Informed Care; Developing an Organizational Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Language; and Homelessness and Suicide Prevention.

Nominations Are Open for New Board Members

The Council's efforts across the country depend on the strong leadership of an informed and inclusive Board of Directors. We rely on the Board to be representative of Council membership and to help guide our efforts in meeting the needs of our community.

Please help us identify outstanding leaders committed to our mission of eliminating homelessness and nominate them for a seat on our Board. Each Board member is eligible to serve up to two two-year terms. Officers generally serve one-year terms.

Applications due for Spring Learning Collaborative on Using SDOH to Support Patients with Complex Needs

Applications close Friday, Feb. 17, for NHCHC's Spring Learning Collaborative, "Using SDOH Data to Support Patients with Complex Health Needs." This collaborative, led by NHCHC faculty and partner SMEs, will focus on how health centers can leverage SDOH data to address patient needs, drive organizational change, and improve the health of the communities in which they serve.

Sessions for the collaborative are slated for Wednesdays in March from 1-2:30 p.m. CST.

Community Conversation: Interdisciplinary, Trauma-Informed Outreach

Outreach is a core part of meeting people where they are when delivering services to people without homes. An interdisciplinary approach to outreach can help teams make contact and build relationships with individuals facing a wide range of challenges. By applying a trauma-informed lens in assessing what services a client is ready for, providers can better understand client needs and avoid retraumatization.

Join us at our next Community Conversation on Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. CST to hear how a team in Albuquerque, N.M., incorporates trauma-informed dental care into outreach, and how a trauma-informed framework is part of outreach in Appleton, Wis. Participants are welcome to share their own questions, challenges, and examples of how interdisciplinary, trauma-informed outreach has helped them serve their clients.

Webinar: We Are Not a Monolith

Join us Feb. 24 at 12 p.m. CST for, "We Are Not a Monolith: Identifying the Power within Storytelling" to talk about storytelling concepts as a wellness tool for participants, patients, and society at large. We'll discuss storytelling from a multicultural lens and discuss how stories can be transformed from weapons used in the reinforcement of racism and oppression across systems to an empowering healing tool for BIPOC communities and individuals.

Webinar: Effective Behavioral Health Crisis Response

Join the Homeless and Housing Resource Center Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. CST to explore strategies for reducing, mitigating, and responding to behavioral health emergencies involving individuals experiencing homelessness. The featured panelists will discuss cross-sector provider coordination and integration and best practices for effectively responding to crisis situations. They will also provide community examples of cross-sector coordination to improve health outcomes, and offer tangible approaches to ensuring comprehensive, culturally responsive services.
