Three Oberlin Alumni Win Positions with Minnesota’s Premier Orchestras
Three recent graduates from Professor Peter Slowik’s viola studio won recent appointments and began their tenures this season. Daniel Orsen ’16 is now a member of the viola section of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra (SCPO). He joins fellow Obies oboist Cassie Pilgrim AD ’20 and principal flutist Julia Bogorad-Kogan ’76.
The viola section of the Minnesota Orchestra is now the home of Marlea Simpson ’17 and Jude Park ’18. They join a deep roster of Oberlin alumni in that orchestra including Katya Linfield ’87, bass trombonist Andrew Chappel ’99, percussionist Kevin Watkins ’96, violist Sam Bergman ’98, oboist Julie Gramolini Williams ’97, principal bassoonist Fei Xie ’04, and principal flutist Adam Kuenzel ’81.
