"A Velocity of Being: Letters to a Young Reader" edited by Maria Popova
"This compilation, curated by Popova, an immigrant from communist Bulgaria, includes a diverse series of letters to young readers from people from every conceivable background: scientists, writers, artists, business tycoons, musicians, Nobel Laureates, social commentators, and a variety of others. Each writes from their own perspective about how reading 'sculpted their character and their destiny,' and the overall effect is the creation of one long love letter to the power of reading. It aptly highlights reading's role as 'oxygen of the mind,' and the way it delivers a richer life for all who partake. While this book would have been wonderful if I'd come across it as a 'young reader,' it's nonetheless fascinating for young and old alike." --Monnie, Meadows Library
