Nominations due this week for president’s task force |
Nominations are due this Thursday, Jan. 18 for committee members for the Building Community: Addressing Anti Semitism, anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab Bias Task Force. In an announcement to the PSU community last week, President Ann Cudd said she is commissioning the task force to ensure ”that PSU is a place where everyone can feel a sense of belonging and pursue their educational journey free from fear.”

Winter weather leads to change to Library Dean interview schedule |
The on-campus interview for candidate A for the Library Dean position will be rescheduled due to winter weather. A new date will be announced as soon as possible.
Candidate B will be on campus for interviews this week and the faculty and staff are invited to participate in the Open Forum on Thursday, Jan. 18 from 2- 3 p.m. in the Millar Library Room ML 160. CV and feedback survey will be posted on the Library Dean Search webpage this Wednesday, Jan. 17.
Candidate C will visit campus next week, with an Open Forum on Monday, Jan. 22.

Remember to fill out the Heart of PSU survey |
Part of the strategic planning process underway at Portland State includes a survey, sent to the campus community from President Cudd last week. PSU faculty, staff and students are encouraged to discuss why they are at PSU, what they love about it, and what they think the university’s core values are, then submit their answers to the Heart of PSU survey by the end of January. Information from the survey will be used to inform discussions at engagement events in February, details of which can be found on the strategic planning webpage.

PSU welcomes new lead for the Disability Resource Center |
The Office of Academic Affairs welcomed Emily Ackerland on Jan. 8 as the new director of the Disability Resource Center (DRC). Emily joins PSU from Western Washington University where she served as Assistant Director of the Disability Access Center there. To better support students, as of Jan. 8, PSU's DRC has moved from the Office of Global Diversity & Inclusion to the Office of Academic Affairs, reporting to the Provost in OAA. GDI will still be a partner in compliance and in ensuring disability is an essential aspect of institutional conversations on diversity. With the move, the DRC will be positioned to effectively engage with OAA leadership to ensure quick implementation of academic accommodations.

Employee Access, Success & Equity (EASE) Task Force is recruiting new members |
Interested in trauma-informed care practices at PSU through an equity lens? The EASE Task Force's Initiative 1 sub-committee is recruiting new members to advance the objective of recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce and ensuring equitable outcomes for all employees. More information is available about free online Intro to Trauma Informed Care training modules and the Jan. 2023 Time 2 Act progress report.

Attend a Town Hall with Sen. Lieber and Rep. Grayber |
PSU faculty and staff are invited to a collaborative town hall Jan. 18, in Smith Memorial Student Union (SMSU) featuring PSU's delegation, Senator Kate Lieber and Representative Dacia Grayber. Gain insights into the forthcoming 2024 Legislative Session and ask questions of the legislators. This in-person event provides an opportunity for active engagement, allowing you to pose questions on issues that are important to you.

Important action needed for sponsored projects |
Salaried employees working on PSU sponsored projects must review Personnel Activity Reports (PARs) every six months to ensure accurate payroll distribution. Starting this week, PARs for July - December 2023 will be sent via AdobeSign with the subject line: Signature requested on Personnel Activity Report(s) for REVIEW/APPROVAL. Please promptly review and take action by either signing to certify accurate payroll distribution or notifying Sponsored Projects Administration of necessary labor distribution changes by using the link in the email to report that changes are needed.

The PSU Center for Entrepreneurship has extended the deadline for applications to our pitch competitions, featuring 2-tracks this year, Cleantech Challenge & Everyday Entrepreneurs, which will run for 10 weeks, January-March 2024. Both of these programs are incredible opportunities for your students to take the first steps into starting a business or building an invention.

Take a stroll on campus and learn about Vanport |
There is a new interactive kiosk where you can learn more about the history of Vanport! The kiosk is located outside of Lincoln Hall beside the existing Vanport Rock (a rock with a plaque from the original Vanport College campus which was retrieved from the flood rubble). The solar-powered freestanding audio exhibit provides information and stories about Vanport in the voices of its original residents, featuring clips from new and archival interviews.
