Explore Valor

Today is the last day to RSVP for the first Explore Valor event on Thursday, October 8! Spots will still be available for the events on October 21 and 28.

Upcoming College Day Series

In place of an in-person College Day event, Academic & College Counseling will virtually provide you with pertinent information about college search and applications. Starting this week, look for an email each Thursday featuring a panel discussion with one of our Academic and College Counselors and college and university representatives from around the country. RSVP for Families of Strength Webinar

Parents, it’s your turn to experience Sources of Strength! On October 10 at 9:00 a.m., Social-Emotional Services team members Lindsey Ervin and David Milton will host a live webinar for parents titled “Families of Strength”. In the session, they will discuss how you can identify and foster the sources that keep your family strong and connected. Sign up here to receive a link to the webinar.

Fall Play Opens

This year’s fall play, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), is a comedy that will keep you laughing! Opening weekend was a hit - get your tickets for next weekend's performances here.

Discovery Fall Applications Close This Week

Discovery's six fall-break experiences will give students opportunities for meaningful service and a team experience without leaving the state. Applications close October 9.

Important Service Hour Approval Changes

As we emerge from full quarantine, serving with our partners is once again a reality. As a result, the temporary Stay, Serve, Transform service hour program will end on October 19 and service hours from this model will no longer be approved. At that time, we will return to our original Commitment to Service model in partnership with primarily faith-based organizations. Coming Up This Week & Next

STEM Speaker Series - October 5

All students are invited to the first STEM Speaker Series of the year on Monday, October 5 from 3:00-3:30 in the Valor Center Performance Hall featuring Patrick Gaines. Mr. Gaines will present on the use of non-embryonic stem cells for the treatment and prevention of human diseases and injuries.

ACT at Valor - October 6

Families of junior and senior students who have registered for the ACT at Valor, please read these important updated instructions for testing day. Don’t forget, check-in begins at 7:45 a.m. in the Valor Athletic Building and cell phones should be left at home or in the car.

Boots & Bandanas Arts Guild Fundraiser - October 11

Join the annual arts fundraiser sponsored by the Valor Arts Guild on October 11. Tickets for the evening are $50; if you give to the Arts Guild before our event, you will be eligible for complimentary admission. You can join the Arts Guild or buy tickets here.

Fall Music Concert - October 13

The Fall Music Concert features our Jazz Combo, Orchestra and Valor Voice! This beautiful evening of music is free and open to the local community. Please reserve seats for social distancing here. Masks are required.

PSAT Testing - October 14

All 9th, 10th, and 11th-grade students will take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 14. Students are asked to arrive at the normal start time of 8:10 a.m. All students must bring a calculator and #2 pencils. Snacks and water are encouraged. Testing will conclude at approximately 11:45 a.m. and students will be released for Fall Break. Results from this testing will be available online in mid-December. You can find more information on the PSAT website. Seniors are excused from school on PSAT testing day.

Fall Break - October 15-18

There will be no school on October 15 & 16 for Fall Break. Enjoy the long weekend!
