William R. Simpson, Jr., the Chief Public Defender for the 6th Judicial District of Arkansas since 1979, was named Mentor of the Year at the 2019 Bowen Awards on February 23.

Bowen Alumni CLE & Day at the Races a Sell-Out
This year's Bowen Law Alumni Association CLE & Day at the Races in Hot Springs was a sold-out success. With panel moderator Dan Roda, panelists Erika Gee ('01) of Wright Lindsey Jennings, Alex Gray ('08) of Steel, Wright, Gray, and Danielle Hoefer ('15) of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division discussed what legal professionals might expect when medical marijuana becomes available. Bill James ('94) of The James Law Firm directed a one-hour Ethics CLE that looked at ways to avoid the most common ethical pitfalls faced in the day to day practice of law. Following the three hours of CLE, participants enjoyed an afternoon watching the races at Oaklawn. A big thank you to our event sponsors, Brenda Simpson and Michelle Strause of The Legacy Law Group.

Young Alumni Happy Hour: This is how we roll
Motion to strike? Granted!
We enjoyed throwing spares and strikes - even a few gutter balls - with Bowen alumni of classes 2008-2018 at Dust Bowl Lanes & Lounge. Another Bowen Young Alumni Happy Hour is scheduled for April, keep scrolling for details! A very special thank you to our sponsors of February's happy hour: The Law Office of Boyd Connors, The Destiny Law Firm, and The Ceja Law Firm. See more pictures here.
Alumni Highlight
Matt Runge uses his J.D. every day in his job as Director of Operations at Our House. “Contracts, risk management, labor laws, and other things come up, and I still use my training in law even though I’m not acting in any official capacity as counsel for Our House.” Read the full story here

"I'm considering law school..."
We're guessing you hear this frequently when people learn more about you. There are many variations on that. "I've always wanted to go to law school"; "My child is considering law school"; or, our favorite, "Why did you go to law school?"
We're certain you have an answer, and we know our alumni are the best ambassadors for Bowen.
So, while you're answering questions from colleagues, friends, and family, please keep Bowen in mind. We're taking applications until midnight on April 1, and there is room in our part-time program for driven students. If interested, contact Assistant Dean Matthew Kerns at mvkerns@ualr.edu or 501-324-9903.
There's never been a better time for them to pursue their goals.
