During her four-year tenure, Robin led the organization through the COVID pandemic, an office relocation, and opening of a satellite office while continuing to advocate for our mission: to promote and protect the rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities so they can live, learn, work and play in the community – improving the quality of life for us all.
Robin’s major accomplishment is establishing a partnership with Mercy Housing Northwest to build an accessible and affordable housing and office complex at the Angle Lake Light Rail station in SeaTac, opening in 2025. Our new home will occupy the ground floor of the building, with 26 of the 130 units set aside for people and families with IDD, referred by The Arc of King County. This partnership is the first of its kind in the state and creates a new model for integrated, permanently affordable housing with expanded accessibility and supportive services for individuals and families with IDD.
“Robin has devoted her career to centering and empowering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities while working to bring disability justice to all. The board of directors would like to express our gratitude to Robin for her commitment to our mission and wish her well in her next endeavor,” says Stacia Irons, Board President of The Arc of King County.
Robin joined The Arc of King County in 2012. Before leading the organization, she served as Director of Information and Family Support for nearly four and a half years, growing the department to include Homelessness Prevention and Healthy Relationships programs while expanding Parent to Parent and multicultural outreach services.
Ramona Hattendorf, Director of Public Policy and Civic Engagement, and Hillary Spears, Director of Supported Living, have accepted the shared role as Acting Executive Director(s) for The Arc of King County for the immediate future. The board of directors has begun a search for an interim and will undertake a nationwide search for Robin’s replacement.
The community is invited to a farewell lunch for Robin at our Renton office, from noon to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28. Please join us to celebrate Robin in the first-floor conference room at 660 SW 39th Street, Renton, WA 98057.
The Board of Directors will keep our community, our contributors, employees, and clients informed during this transition process. Please watch for upcoming announcements from the team. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at the email address below.
