TrueNorth’s Children’s Christmas Program has provided local families with holiday gifts since 1952. It is a long-standing annual tradition that we were determined to continue this year. Though modified, our 2020 program has already served over 1,600 children, with a plan to reach 2,000 served by the end of this year’s gift distribution.
A complete overhaul of our previous approach ensured safe distribution amidst COVID-19. The program continued with modifications like an outdoor check-in station complete with Plexiglas, and gift bags passed to participants through the front windows of the agency. Each gift bag was packed with age-appropriate items including a main gift, an art project, a book, a board game, a blanket, a hat, gloves, socks, a mask and, for the older kids, a hygiene kit.
Through generous support from community members, the Fremont Area Community Foundation and the Gerber Foundation, TrueNorth is able to provide hope during the holiday season. Hope for a bright future. Mike Voyt, who oversees this program stated it perfectly;“Being able to provide hope to children in our area at a tough time is the best part for me.”
