Change to Sunday Service Schedule: We are pleased to announce that on the First Sunday in Lent, February 21, the 8:00 a.m. Eucharist will resume. The new Sunday service schedule—8:00 and 11:15 a.m.—will remain in place until further notice.
Please note that we will continue to post a virtual celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the parish blog, Grace under Quarantine, each Sunday.
An Update on Choral Singing at Christ Church: We are also pleased to announce that we have received permission from the Diocese of Washington to begin utilizing a quartet of singers at the 11:15 a.m. Eucharist each Sunday. Choristers will be masked at all times, and distanced from each other and from those in the congregation. On the First Sunday in Lent, February 21, we will see and hear the first choral singing during in-person worship at Christ Church in nearly a year’s time. Thanks be to God.
Tuesday Evening Lenten Program: Join us on Tuesdays, February 23, and March 2, 9, 16, and 23, at 6:30 p.m., via Zoom, for five evenings of fellowship and learning, led by the parish clergy, seminarian, and guest speaker the Reverend Dr. Frank Wade. Week by week, participants will consider how we grow as Christians, using St. Paul’s famous sequence in his Epistle to the Romans as a guide: More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us. Christ Church Author Series: The next installment of The Pen of a Ready Writer will take place on Thursday, February 25, at 7:30 p.m., via Zoom. It will feature parishioner Eric Motley, who will discuss his book, Madison Park: A Place of Hope. Founded by freed slaves in 1880, Madison Park and the grandparents who reared him taught Eric the valuable lessons of self-determination and belief in the American dream. As one reviewer noted: “This charming, engaging, and deeply inspiring memoir will help you remember that we can create a world of shared values based on love and hope. It is a story that reveals the amazing power of faith in God and each other. If you’re in search of hope during troubled times, look no further than Madison Park.” To join via Zoom, click here.
Praying Amidst Complexity and Confusion: On five Sundays in Lent, beginning February 28, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., the Contemplative Life Ministry will offer a series of opportunities to listen for guidance in these times of upheaval and uncertainty. Participants will focus on brief readings about prayer from Christian thinkers and spend time in silence and quiet conversation. Parishioners are invited to participate in any or all of the sessions, which will be held in person, with masks and social distancing, in the Parish Hall Auditorium or, weather permitting, in the Chapel Garden. Space is limited due to Covid-19 restrictions. If you plan to attend any or all of the sessions, contact parishioner Merrill Carrington to reserve a space.
Parish Office Hours: The Parish Office is open for telephone inquiries on a limited basis. Members of the staff are available Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. In an effort to protect both parishioners and staff, in-person visits are discouraged until further notice.

Women’s Bible Study: This semester, participants in the Women’s Bible Study are reading Care of the Soul by spiritual writer, psychotherapist, and former monk Thomas Moore, which focuses on the discovery of the sacred in everyday living. The group will meet on Tuesday evenings, April 6, April 20, May 4, May 18, and June 1, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., via Zoom. If you would like to take part, contact the Reverend Melissa Hollerith.

Emergency Financial Assistance: Parishioners who are experiencing financial hardship due to the health crisis are encouraged to contact the Rector. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of a number of parishioners, he is able to offer support on a case-by-case basis. Please note that all requests for assistance will be kept strictly confidential.
Parishioners Helping Parishioners: As we are all well aware, the Coronavirus pandemic has negatively impacted many people, particularly in terms of employment. Some have had their hours at work dramatically reduced, while others have lost their livelihoods entirely. The economic, emotional, and spiritual strain on individuals and households is real. In an effort to assist those in need, Vestry member Julia Ainsley has developed a résumé bank where unemployed or underemployed parishioners can post their job materials. Parishioners who are aware of employment opportunities and who wish to access the résumé bank are encouraged to do so. Questions? Contact Julia Ainsley.
