Welcome to the Summer 2022 issue of From the Archives, the UCSB Library’s newsletter highlighting all things related to Special Research Collections (SRC). A trove of manuscripts, photographs, audio-visual materials and more, SRC is the University’s home for scholarship surrounding our most valuable and rare materials. We hope you enjoy learning more about SRC and its role in providing access to primary source materials that support excellent scholarship and research.
This quarter we review SRC’s cutting-edge audio preservation lab and its namesake, Henri Temianka; offer a glimpse into the “behind-the-scenes” of our most widely-used collection, the California Ethnic & Multicultural Archives; explore how the Library preserves the academic legacies of our faculty; and celebrate a recently awarded grant to preserve the recordings of variety show host Rudy Vallée, as part of our Recordings at Risk project. We also invite you to join us for our summer event series, “Art Walk & Talk in the Library,” where local collectors and artists describe the stories behind the Library’s permanent artworks.
