Dear Faculty and Staff:
The General Education Implementation Task Force (GE Task Force) has been charged with helping SUNY New Paltz transition from GE 3 and GE 4 to the new GE program approved by the Faculty Senate on March 2, 2022, and aligned with the SUNY GE Framework approved by the SUNY Board of Trustees on November 9, 2021. Because our new GE program does not yet have an official name, we will refer to it by the unofficial name of “GE 5.”
Last month, the GE Task Force sent to department chairs and program directors guidance and information for recertifying GE 3 and GE 4 courses in five Knowledge and Skills areas in GE 5. We also issued a call for new course proposals, which should follow established procedure.
In the attached memo, sent to department chairs and program directors on April 1, we address the timeline and process for major course revisions, and we provide guidance to faculty adapting current GE 3, GE 4, and Diversity courses to GE 5. We have also attached the GE 5 Major Course Revision form.
Timeline and due dates
We strongly urge departments and faculty to submit major course revisions as early as they can – in spring 2022, if possible. The process of creating the GE 5 curriculum and building the fall 2023 schedule will require considerable work for the Curriculum Committee, Records & Registration, Academic Affairs, and others. To ensure sufficient time to review and process major course revisions, please submit them no later than September 1, 2022. Please prioritize submitting courses that you plan to offer in fall 2023.
Thank you.
