 Shrine in Otawara

by: Carolann F.
"My name is Carolann F., and I took these photos last July in Japan. The photo of the shrine entrance was from Otawara in the countryside. I was staying with a host family for a few days, and there were rice paddys near their house. The shrine was nearby in town."

A Message from the Consul General
Ken Okaniwa
Consul General of Japan in Miami
February was quite a month. President Trump invited Prime Minister Abe and his wife to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach. It was my great honor and pleasure to welcome them, in what was probably the first formal visit of a Japanese Prime Minister to the Sunshine State. I am doubly pleased to report that the meetings between our two leaders were very positive, reaffirming full commitment to the US-Japan Alliance and to strengthening the bilateral economic relationship (cf. details on the US-Japan Joint Statement ). They seemed to have gotten along so well that they played not 18, but 27 holes of golf during their stay!
March will be no less exciting as the consulate will host a booth at the 27th Annual Asian Culture Festival at Fruit & Spice Park in Homestead on March 4-5. Don`t miss this opportunity to see many different displays of Japanese and Asian Culture, including our table where we will be having fun activities for young and old alike.
Elsewhere in the State, the world renowned Taiko group Kodo will also be making an appearance in Jacksonville, Florida on March 11 as part of the special world tour Dadan-2017.
I hope you will find the chance to visit these wonderful events this month.

For those seeking to go to Japan on an exchange program, I would like to introduce the TOMODACHI-Mitsui & Co. Leadership Program. The program sends young Japanese and American leaders to visit each others countries to promote mutual understanding and build people-to-people ties. I encourage all those interested to consider applying to this  important program (information).
