Welcome to the latest edition of your CITAL newsletter. There is a lot of excitement this time of the semester as we approach the holiday season. With various pilots and advancements in AI, we wanted to start off the newsletter by providing some guidance from the Honor Council surrounding academic honesty and how to potentially address these issues in your classrooms. Next, we move on to provide more opportunities for faculty development and virtual conferences around teaching and learning. Finally, we end with some more Canvas tips and resources, as well as a reminder to sign up for our latest Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) workshop. Over 50 Valpo faculty have taken this workshop, and as a reminder breakfast and lunch are provided. Thank you again for your continued engagement.

Faculty are increasingly encountering AI in the classroom, whether they want it there or not. Not surprising, then, that there is an increase in the number of Honor Council (HC) cases involving the unauthorized use of AI. In this article, the Honor Council Executive Board fills us in on how AI is impacting Honor Council cases and how faculty can help their students to use AI responsibly.

As we are halfway through the semester, we realize you have a lot on your plate and you might want to find ways to save time. Here are a few ways you can utilize Canvas to save time. 

You can simplify your quiz-building process by using features in new quizzes including item bank migration and Canvas Commons. Next, creating and sharing rubrics can be made easier by utilizing drag and drop criteria that can be uploaded as a CSV file. 

The SpeedGrader can save you time on grading as it helps you evaluate assignments quickly. You can also use Screen Capture with Audio, which allows you to give students visual feedback. With the Spring 2026 semester quickly approaching, take advantage of our pre-built template to save time when designing your courses.
