Amanda Murdie Named Dean of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts |
Following an international search, Georgia Tech has appointed Amanda Murdie as the new dean of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, effective June 1, 2025. Murdie currently serves as a Regents’ Professor, Georgia Athletic Association Professor of International Affairs, and the Head of the Department of International Affairs for the University of Georgia’s School of Public and International Affairs.

This year's recommendations follow the theme of "exploration," whether that's exploring a dangerously alien world, investigating the right recipe for a successful society, or pushing the boundaries of storytelling.

| Jimmy Carter: Engineer, President, Poet |
In this installment of Decanally Speaking, Interim Dean Richard Utz reflects on President Jimmy Carter's lifelong passion for learning and exploring many fields of study, including science, engineering, prose, and poetry.
"Carter's 'soft' skill as a poet offered him just another opportunity to reflect on and communicate the values that also inform his politics and policy: freedom and human dignity," said Utz.

Casey Wichman (Economics) started a three-year term as co-editor at the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, one of two top-field journals in environmental economics and the oldest journal specializing environmental and resource economics. Wichman was also elected to the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists' Board of Directors for a three-year term.

Anthony Harding (Public Policy) also presented at the Southern Economic Association annual meeting. His paper, “Beyond the Haze: Investigating Aerosol Impacts on Park Visitation,” investigates the causal link between weather, air pollution, and outdoor recreational activity at U.S. national parks.

Gaurav Doshi (Economics) presented his paper, “Chicken and Egg: Electricity Transmission and Investment in Renewable Energy” at an invited seminar at the University of Georgia. The paper won the 2024 Young Professional Best Paper Award Competition at the United States Association for Energy Economics/International Association for Energy Economics North American Conference.

In this workshop, participants will review a variety of resources, including ones from the Difficult Dialogues National Resource Center, and identify opportunities to integrate them into their courses.
