Oversalting Your Sidewalk or Driveway Harms Local Streams and Potentially Even Your Drinking Water
The Conversation
"Snow has returned to the Philadelphia region, and along with it the white residues on streets and sidewalks that result from the over-application of deicers such as sodium chloride, or rock salt, as well as more modern salt alternatives... Working with other researchers at Villanova University, I have measured spikes in sodium levels in Philadelphia region tap water during and immediately after snow melts. These spikes can pose a health risk to people on low-sodium diets"... Steven Goldsmith is a professor of environmental science in the Department of Geography and the Environment at Villanova University.

The Philadelphia Inquirer (subscription may be required to view)
Mike Tollin received an ovation for his documentary film about the life of George Raveling after a Wednesday night showing on Villanova's campus... Villanova also honored Raveling during its game against the Hoyas, which the Wildcats won, 66-51. Raveling graduated from Villanova in 1960 and served as an assistant coach under Jack Kraft from 1963 to 1969. He died at age 88 on Sept. 1, 2025. Fans held up newspaper fliers distributed by Nike that read "Thank You, Coach" during the game's first timeout.

The Cultural Film Series is proud to announce a partnership with the Augustine and Culture Seminar Program. This year’s film series explores two themes: representations of the ancient world and portrayals of American identity.
Films are screened in the Cinema of the Connelly Center on Villanova’s campus on Sundays at 3:30PM and 7PM and Monday evenings at 7PM. Visitors may park in the I-1 Garage, located at Lancaster and Ithan Avenues.
Speakers, who introduce the film and lead a discussion after the screening, are only present for the Monday evening screenings. As always, all screenings are free and open to the public.
Please note that all films are intended for audiences aged 18 or older.

Arcadia: February 12 - 22 |
In Tom Stoppard's masterpiece, time dances between 1809 and the present at the elegant Coverly estate. In one era, precocious thirteen-year-old Lady Thomasina and her tutor explore revolutionary ideas in mathematics, physics, and romance while the gardens transform from classical to Gothic. Two centuries later, competing scholars piece together a mysterious scandal involving Lord Byron from fragments of the past, unwittingly mirroring the intellectual and romantic pursuits of their predecessors.
Directed by Valerie Joyce, Arcadia opens at Villanova's Court Theatre, in the John & Joan Mullen Center for the Perforning Arts, on February 12 and runs through February 22.
Please visit Villanova Theatre for more information, including special events.
Purchase tickets in advance via the Mullen Center Box Office.
