It is week three of Remembering Why We Give. This week, we challenge you to think about what you are seeking from your church family. Relect on this story shared by Nan Moak:
I had an eye-opening moment when I realized I never really chose my home church and it was OK to leave if it wasn’t the right fit for me. It still took me two years to make the decision to leave my home church, but only five minutes to know Parkway Hills was where I belonged.
My husband Rusty and I attended a Wednesday night Bible study at PHUMC simply because our friend was the pastor. At this point, I don’t even remember the evening’s topic, but I do remember Connie Campbell and Sherry Felder. Whatever they said struck a chord with me and I felt instantly at home. Initially, we came because of the pastor, (whom we love), but we stayed because of the community that is Parkway Hills United Methodist Church.
I remember choosing Parkway Hills because it gave me what I was seeking, and embraced me right back with a freedom to grow that I hadn’t experienced since my Wesley Foundation days in college! I have grown in my spirituality and faith. What is unique about that is I don’t feel pressure to grow and learn a certain way or within a specified boundary. This has been such a gift to my family and me. This is why I have made the choice to support Parkway Hills with my time, my gifts and my finances; I hope you will join me. Nan
