Greetings, Eagle Families,
Congratulations on joining the American University community! We are thrilled to welcome new Eagle students and families to campus in the new year.
Throughout the coming weeks, you will receive newsletter emails from us, New Student and Family Programs (NSFP). These newsletters will contain key updates and helpful tips on how to support your student and information on important campus resources. And, once the semester begins, you will begin to receive the bi-weekly Family Update newsletters that are sent to families of all current students.
We know this is an exciting time, filled with joy and anticipation, and we invite you to contact us with questions along the way (202-885-3303, eaglefamilies@american.edu). Welcome to AU!
Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle!

New Student and Family Programs
| Did you know that we are here for you?
New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) helps new students and families successfully transition to AU through intentional programming and tailored resources. We strive to welcome all -- helping new students connect, belong, and grow, and engaging with parents, families, and other caregivers as partners to support students and the AU community.

AU's Associate Director of Family Engagement, Samantha Kirby Caruth, is your main contact on the New Student and Family Programs team, and we are all here to partner with you. Visit our Parents & Families website for lots of helpful information -- resources for now and for throughout your student's time at AU!

Your Student's Next Steps
Your student should have received a welcome email from Undergraduate Admissions. Ask them to review that email, as it introduces them to the next steps in their AU transition process and includes important information, such as details about their American University student ID number, or AUID.

We look forward to seeing all new students and families at the AU orientations! Orientations help facilitate a meaningful and positive ‘onboarding’ experience for our newest community members, and we offer both a student orientation and a family orientation.

➡️Students participate in New Student Orientation (NSO). This required program is an essential program for first-year and transfer students. During NSO, students will meet Orientation Leaders, interact with other new students, and learn about important campus services, resources, and expectations. NSO will take place Thursday, January 9 through Saturday, January 11.
➡️Families participate in Families & Supporters Orientation on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 8, after student move-in. During this optional program, first-year and transfer parents and family members participate in an informal welcome reception, meet other new AU families, and attend presentations with campus partners to become more familiar with resources and key staff at AU.
We look forward to sharing more information on both orientations very soon!
