Favorite program on Classical KC: Besides our locally produced programs, I love listening to Steve Seel in the evenings. He plays a lot of new music and I love discovering something new.
Favorite composer: Sergei Prokofiev.
What excites you about classical music? The dynamics. I love the loud louds and the soft softs. Plus, there is nothing like seeing a huge orchestra live and feeling all those sound waves hit your gut.
What recording or piece of music would you bring to a dinner party to introduce guests to classical music?
Great question. Well, since I said Prokofiev is my favorite composer, I'd have to go with his music for "Romeo and Juliet." The melodies and orchestration are so varied and exciting, plus if the guests know nothing about classical music, they could connect to the ways in which the music relates to different moments and characters in Shakespeare's story.
