Pre-Law News: Scholarship Edition

Law School Scholarships for Diverse Applicants
ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund — Grants 10 to 20 incoming diverse law students with $15,000 of financial assistance over the course of their three years in law school.

LGBT Public Interest Scholarship Program — Scholarship of up to $5,000 for law students and/or grads studying for the bar who identify as LGBTQ+ or plan to pursue public interest work in the LGBTQ+ space. Sponsored by the ABA Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Commission.

Marshall-Motley Scholars Program (MMSP) —Provides full financial support for all law school expenses and long-term career and leadership opportunities to 50 aspiring civil rights lawyers over the next five years. 


Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) — Supports law students who seek to further MALDEF’s mission of advancing the civil rights of the Latino community in the United States through the legal profession. In recent years, MALDEF has annually awarded 5 to 15 scholarships of $2,000 to $10,000 each to deserving law students from throughout the nation.


NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. — Has provided over $19 million in financial support to undergraduates and law students, making it possible for hundreds of highly qualified students to attend the nation’s most competitive colleges, universities, and law schools.

The Sidney B. Williams, Jr. Scholar Program — Provides financial and other support for racially and ethnically diverse, STEM education students interested in exploring a career in patent law. Scholars are eligible to receive a three-year tuition grant award of $10,000 per year.

The Snell & Wilmer Fellowship for Advancement and Resources (FAR) — FAR Fellows receive an LSAT preparation course of the Fellow’s choosing, a stipend equal to the most current cost to both sit for the LSAT and register for the Credential Assembly Service, a 1L law school prep course, and more.

Zelle Diversity In Law Scholarship — Created for law students who either (1) are a member of a population or group whose background and perspectives are historically underrepresented in the private practice of law, or (2) demonstrate a long-standing commitment to diversity that will be furthered by award of the scholarship.

Other Law School Scholarships
Pipeline to Practice Foundation Scholarships — The Pipeline to Practice is a non-profit committed to diversifying the legal profession by providing diverse students with programming and attorney mentors throughout law school. Additionally, the Foundation has partnered with BARBRI to ensure that its students receive free access to BARBRI Law Preview's law school prep course (before law school) and a BARBRI Bar Review course (when they graduate). Application deadline is May 1, 2023.

One Lawyer Can Change the World Scholarship — Given the current political and social climate, we feel it is crucial to support entering 1Ls who plan to use their law degree to become change agents. The One Lawyer Can Change the World Scholarship supports ten entering law students with the following financial awards: First prize = $10k scholarship; Second prize = $5k scholarship; and Eight Runners-Up = $1k scholarship. All scholarship awards are paid directly to each Finalist's law school on August 1st as a credit towards their 1L fall semester tuition. Application deadline is  June 1, 2022.


7Sage 7K Law School Scholarship — $7,000 scholarship opportunity for pre-law and incoming 1L students. Winner is selected based on response to two short essay prompts.

Bader Scott “Future Lawyers of America” Scholarship
 — $2,500 scholarship for undergraduate law school applicants and current law school students who come from financially disadvantaged families. Application includes an essay.

BARBRI Law Preview’s Course Scholarships — Full-tuition scholarships funded by BigLaw firms & Fortune 500 companies that enable entering 1Ls to attend Law Preview's law school prep course.

Blueprint LSAT Law School Scholarship — $20,000 scholarship for undergraduate students planning to take the LSAT. No essay or purchase required.

Harness IP’s Diversity & Inclusion Fellowship — Provides diverse, first- and second-year law students with career mentoring and financial assistance as they explore their interest in intellectual property law. 

LSAT Nerds Scholarship Fund 
— Provides recipients with one-on-one LSAT tutoring, access to The LSAT Nerds’ comprehensive curriculum, several small group workshops each week, and a wide array of application resources covering every aspect of the admission process.

Sarita and Claire Wright Lucas Foundation — Awards $5,000 scholarships to African-American female law students who have committed to careers as prosecutors. For these future prosecutors, the scholarship program covers the cost of the bar application and preparation up to $5,000. The scholarship program also offers a $5,000 incentive for scholarship recipients who secure employment as prosecutors.

Weil Legal Innovators (WLI) Program — Engages rising law school students in addressing some of today's most pressing social and legal challenges. Innovators defer their first year of law school to work at a WLI partner nonprofit organization for a paid public service fellowship.
