Smile Day at the Museum Health Fair
Interested in a healthy smile? The Museum of disABILITY History is pleased to collaborate with the University at Buffalo Dental School for Smile Day at the Museum Health Fair on Thursday, March 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Museum’s location, 3826 Main Street, Buffalo, NY.
Faculty and students of the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine will provide dental appraisals for children and adults. The event will include: An opportunity to sign the Spread the Word to End the R Word pledge, Special Olympics information and wellness tips, plus participants will receive a free goodie bag.

Film and Speaker Series to Feature Life, Animated
Join us for a heartwarming story as the Museum of disABILITY History Film and Speaker Series features Life, Animated on Friday, April 28, at North Park Theatre, 1428 Hertel Avenue, Buffalo, NY. There will be one showing at 7 p.m., followed by a film discussion.
Life, Animated is the inspirational story of Owen Suskind, a young man with autism who was unable to speak as a child until he and his family discovered a unique way to communicate by immersing themselves in the world of classic Disney animated films. An emotional coming-of-age story, the film follows Owen as he graduates to adulthood and takes his first steps toward independence. Life, Animated was a 2017 Academy Award Nominee for Best Documentary.
Co-presented by Autism Services, Inc., the film event’s goal is to educate viewers, offer different perspectives, challenge stereotypes and celebrate the contributions of people with disabilities.
Admission tickets are $7.50 each and will be available to purchase at North Park Theatre. For more information, call 716.629.3626. Updates will be posted on the Museum’s Facebook page.
Visit “In Celebration of Down Syndrome” Exhibit
The “In Celebration of Down Syndrome” exhibit will continue to be on display at the Museum of disABILITY History at 3826 Main Street, Buffalo, NY. The exhibit explores medical history, myths and facts, success stories and popular culture.
The centerpiece of the exhibit is photography of happy children by Eva Snoijink from her book, Down’s Upside: A Positive View of Down’s Syndrome. Also part of the exhibit is memorabilia worn by Christopher Burke, an actor with Down syndrome, who played Corky on Life Goes On, and Lauren Potter, an actress with Down syndrome, from her role as Becky on Glee. Additionally, Kelly’s Hollywood, an inspirational documentary about a young woman who has Down syndrome and her brother’s quest to help her fulfill her dream of becoming a Hollywood diva, is available to view as part of the exhibit.
School groups and parents, along with human service and medical professionals are encouraged to visit. For more information, email info@museumofdisability.org or call 716.629.3626. The exhibit was created with the assistance of Down Syndrome Parents Group of WNY and NYS Council for the Humanities.

Save 10 Percent at the Museum Store in March
In recognition of National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, a 10 percent savings will be offered in the Museum of disABILITY History store throughout the month of March. Unique products handmade by individuals with disabilities from People Inc.’s Day Habilitation programs are available. Items include handcrafted wooden wine stoppers and pens, as well as painted wine glass sets. Other items include jewelry, DVDs and books. Click here for a coupon. The Museum of disABILITY History’s hours have recently changed, which are: Closed on Monday and open Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Museum is always open online and can be reached at info@
