Design Symposium | Harlan BozemanÂ

Harlan Bozeman is a lens-based artist whose research-driven practice has focused on confronting the erasure of Black culture and its histories, and investigating the legacies of slavery and its aftermath in the American South. His previous work explored the Gullah Sea Islands communities, specifically Wadmalaw Island where his family is from, and the narratives that serve to prolong their cultural significance. His work has been featured in The Atlantic, British Journal of Photography, Der Grief, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal.Â

Kansas City Architectural Foundation (KCAF) ScholarshipÂ
Selections are made by the Scholarship Committee and are available to students who are sophomore or above in Fall 2024, from the Kansas City Metro area, and are pursuing architectural degree from an accredited school of architecture. Applicants' work will be evaluated against other applicants in the same year-level in school. Judgment for KCAF scholarships is based on need, academic excellence and demonstrated leadership. This year there are nine scholarships available ranging from $3000 to $8000.Â

Photo student Grace Worden's No Place Like Home Â

The exhibition, No Place Like Home, will be open 7:00 am – 7:00 pm, Monday – Friday until March 9. Grace Worden's work is focused on documenting our state's cultural landscapes. A photography student minoring in environmental studies, Grace combines analog photography and traditional darkroom printing with historical and environmental research to preserve views of and bring context to rarely considered places and spaces where natural and built environments meet. Â

Shigeru Ban Architects has innovated in wood for over 35 years, creating inspiring spaces that have a positive impact on building inhabitants, communities, and the environment. The firm has built over 65 wood and mass timber projects, from prefabricated plywood houses to parametrically modeled glulam gridshells.
Timber in Architecture presents the trajectory of 45 works from concept through construction, demonstrating the challenges and merits of wood buildings through essays, technical drawings, and photographs.Â
