Featured Photo
This week's featured photo comes to us from RVR resident, Patti Crockett. Two Orioles are seen enjoying Patti's hummingbird feeder (with built in perches). Orioles enjoy the same sugar water that humming birds do. They can't hover like humming birds, so they need a place to land and drink. Bird seed in feeders are not an ideal option in our area, these can attarct rodents, predatory birds and even bears.

Please Keep Pups Leashed
Concerns have recently come up regarding unleashed dogs resulting in a pet altercation in the neighborhood.
If you ever find yourself in a position where your dog becomes aggressive or you are involved in a bitting situation, please be sure to exchange information and report it to the Carbondale Police Department. Many of these situations can be avoided by ensuring your pet is leashed while you are out and about in the neighborhood.

Green Tip
Please enjoy the following eco-friendly tidbit brought to you by Friends of the Environment:
Grocery shopping can be challenging as it seems that single use plastic is everywhere. But there are a few things you can do to help. In the produce department, skip the plastic bags. Bring your own mesh bags or go without bags, since you are going to wash your fruits and veggies anyway. Buy loose produce like carrots, potatoes, and onions rather than the pre-bagged ones. Choose cardboard egg cartons which can be recycled or composted, rather than styrofoam ones. And wean yourself off plastic wrap. If something really needs to be wrapped, opt for aluminum foil, which can be recycled if it's clean. We can all make a difference so consider making a few small changes in how you shop.

Bears Wake From a Long Winter’s Nap
As we transition into warmer weather, we would like to remind everyone that bears are coming out of hibernation and they are hungry! Bears can be attracted to our area by trash being left out overnight, bird feeders, pet food, barbeque grills and compost. Please do your part to keep the bears safe and out of the neighborhood.

Youth Gym & Safety Course
At the April 26 board meeting, the board approved a change to the RVRMA Rules & Regulations regarding the minimum age requirements for fitness facility users. Previously, the rule stated users under 15 years old were not permitted on the second-floor fitness facility. The board approved the following change:
Children under the age of fifteen (15) are not permitted in the second floor Fitness Center of the Ranch House unless:
- The child is at least the age of eleven (11) and is exercising under the supervision of their parent. The parent must remain with the child in the gym.
- The child is at least the age of eleven (11) and is exercising under the supervision of an RVR approved personal trainer and has permission from their parents and RVR management.
- The child is at least the age of thirteen (13) and has completed a course with an RVR approved fitness instructor for gym etiquette and safety, and parents of the child have completed an additional waiver for their child to use the gym without their supervision.
Do you have a 13- or 14-year-old teen who would like to use the gym without a parent? Click here to learn more about the process.
