Dear Faculty, Administrators and Staff,
This week we have two exciting updates, one about our goal of increasing our faculty success across the globe and the other about our upcoming Presidential Investiture!
Faculty Success Update: I am pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Jim Kimble from the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media as our new Faculty Prestigious Fellowships Director. In this critical role, Professor Kimble will support faculty in applying for Fulbright programs and other national and international fellowships. Professor Kimble has extensive experience with Prestigious Fellowships and his guidance will be instrumental as we continue to compete in a highly selective environment. Learn more about his appointment.
We look forward to seeing more of our talented faculty members recognized for their contributions on the national and international stage. Please join me in congratulating Professor Kimble.
Presidential Investiture Update: Additionally, I would like to inform you that, as in past years, classes on the South Orange campus will be cancelled on Monday, November 4 until 5 p.m. for the Investiture of our 22nd President, Monsignor Joseph Reilly. The availability of parking will be limited during this milestone event, which will attract guests from all our campuses, the state of New Jersey and beyond. Additional details about the Presidential Investiture will be announced soon, and we look forward to seeing you there.

Compliance 101
Part of the 2024 OGRS Research Grant Series of lectures held during Petersheim, Compliance 101 emphasized the importance of compliance in research integrity. The session covered several aspects of compliance, including institutional animal care, conflict of interest, ethics and more.
"Research Compliance is an integral part of the research process, from the beginning of the submission to the close out of the award," explained trainer Norma Rubio. "Researchers need to be able to follow the requirements of the sponsor with the initial submission, in order to receive the award, which needs to be financially and in programmatically monitored."

| Tips for Faculty to Increase Retention
Research shows that student interaction with faculty is key to student success and retention. Here are some best practices (adapted from the 2023 Student Voice Survey and Utah Tech University, 2024) on how faculty can continue to positively enhance the student experience.
Tip #9: Obtain and Use Student Feedback. Student feedback through in-class assessment techniques or reviewing course evaluations can be an effective way for faculty to assess their teaching skills.
Tip #10: Interact with Students Beyond the Classroom. Faculty-student contact outside the classroom increases a student's sense of belonging and improves student retention. Attending student events or volunteering as a club advisor are ways to increase engagement.
