Dear Members of the Campus Community:
The ground floor of the Sojourner Truth Library will be closed to all guests until further notice as we work to mitigate the presence of mold on materials on that level.
The College has been monitoring the presence of this mold since it was first discovered earlier this year and has been working proactively with Facilities Management staff and third-party consultants to contain the situation and work toward a solution.
Restricting access to the affected area is necessary both for the protection of Library visitors and staff, and to prevent spread while we work to preserve materials and address the root cause of the issue.
While this work is ongoing, students, faculty, staff and visitors may have limited access to materials that are housed on the ground floor. This includes books in the M-Z range, as well as bound periodicals, oversized books, maps and some atlases, microfilm and microforms, and FDLP government documents.
Library staff are developing plans to help people access needed materials through interlibrary loan, electronic resources or other means, to the extent possible. Please stay tuned for more updates about those processes as the fall semester approaches.
At this time, faculty can use the Ask a Librarian “Submit a Question” tool to let us know if you need access to materials in this section, so we can consult with you on possible solutions.
We thank you for your patience as we work to resolve this issue.
Sincerely,
Kristy Lee
Interim Dean, Sojourner Truth Library
