THIS WEEK AT CHRIST CHURCH, GEORGETOWN
Wednesday, March 13, 2024

SPECIAL NOTICES
Easter Flowers: If you would like to make a contribution to help offset the cost of the flowers that will adorn the Church this Easter, contact Parish Coordinator Tonika Hilliard, or visit the parish’s giving portal and select Flower Fund from the drop-down menu. Contributions may be made in memory of or in thanksgiving for loved ones. In order for your memorial/thanksgiving to be included in service leaflets on Easter Eve and Day, it must reach the Parish Office by Thursday, March 21, at 12:00 noon.
Prayer Vigil at the Altar of Repose: Volunteers are needed to keep vigil before the reserved Sacrament following the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on Maundy Thursday. Come, wait with the Lord in the Garden of Gethsemane. Spend time in prayer, contemplation, and silence on this holy evening. Members of the parish staff and a security guard will be present throughout the vigil. To sign up, click here.
Lenten Series: This year’s Lenten series, Art Avenues to God, will conclude on Tuesday, March 19, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in Keith Hall. Following a simple supper, parishioner, conductor, and singer John Murton will offer a presentation entitled My sheep hear my voice: Listening for God through the art of music. Professional nursery care for children four months of age and older, as well as developmentally appropriate, Lenten-themed art activities, will be available in the Chapel of Saint Jude. For more information, contact Lay Assistant Minister Tiffany Clarke.
Fourth Sunday Discussion Series: On the fourth Sunday of each month, at 10:00 a.m., bring your coffee and questions to Keith Hall for a new discussion series entitled Practical Elements of Church Life. Led by Christ Church clergy and staff, the series is intended to demystify what we do in church, helping attendees more fully participate in the rich liturgical life of the parish. On Palm Sunday, March 24, the Rector will speak about the Holy Eucharist — its ritual, its language, its symbolism, and its theology.
Reconciliation of a Penitent: The sacrament of Reconciliation, or Confession, is especially appropriate during the season of Lent. For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact a member of the clergy.
Christ Church Women’s Retreat: Not feeling like your best self? Need some space to sort things out with others who are on the same path? This year’s Women’s Retreat will provide an opportunity for attendees to connect with themselves, with others, and with God in a nurturing, supportive environment. The gathering, which will begin on Friday, April 26 and conclude on Sunday, April 28, will be held in the charming horse country of Purcellville, Virginia – an ideal place for guided reflection, spiritual direction, restorative recreation, and fun. Come, be refreshed and renewed. To register, please click here. For more information, please contact Youth and Family Minister Chrissy Casey or Lay Assistant Minister Tiffany Clark.
GENERAL NOTICES
Wine Down Wednesday: On the second Wednesday of each month, the women of Christ Church are invited to join members of the clergy and staff, and fellow parishioners for food, drink, and the opportunity to create lasting bonds amidst the busyness of everyday life. The next gathering will take place today, Wednesday, March 13, 6:00 p.m., at Millie’s Spring Valley. Family members, friends, and neighbors are most welcome! For more information, contact Chrissy Casey.
“Littles and Life” Music and Movement Class: On Saturday, March 16, at 10:00 a.m., parents and their little ones (babies through early childhood) are invited to attend a fun-filled music and movement class in the Chapel of Saint Jude, our temporary nursery. The session will be led by Christ Church chorister Laura Petersen, who has taught nursery and lower school music at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Day School for nearly two decades. For more information or to RSVP, contact Chrissy Casey, Youth and Family Minister.
Faith 2.0: Come, enjoy artisanal hot chocolate while discussing the appointed lectionary readings with fellow young professionals. This parishioner-led group meets at L.A. Burdick Chocolate Shop and Cafe: 1319 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, on Sundays, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. For more information, contact parishioners Adriane Connerton or Whitney Enright.
Spiritual Life Ministry: This semester, Christ Church’s Spiritual Life Ministry is once again offering parishioners the opportunity to cultivate their capacity for prayer through the ancient discipline of Lectio Divina — meditation on scripture in which practitioners allow their hearts to be transformed by and through the living Word of God. Sessions are held on the first and third Sundays of each month, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. (just before Choral Evensong), on the second floor of the Church building. All are welcome. For more information, contact parishioner Kelly Storrs.
Choral Evensong: The next service of Choral Evensong will take place on Sunday, March 17, at 5:00 p.m., in the Church. The liturgy will include plainsong, as well as works by William Byrd and Henry Purcell. Evensong will continue on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of the month through May. Christ Church is one of a handful of parishes in the U.S. to offer this beautiful, quintessentially Anglican liturgy with such frequency. Please plan to join us… and bring a friend.
Women’s Bible Study: This semester, all women of the parish and their guests are invited to participate in a Bible study series entitled Holy Women from of Old. From Rahab the faithful traitor to Abishag the wise poet, attendees are surveying God’s involvement in Old Testament history through the lives of women found in the books of Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 and 2 Samuel, and Song of Songs. Sessions will take place on Mondays, March 18, April 8 and 22, and May 6 and 20, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., in Keith Hall. An online option is available for those who are unable to attend in person. For more information, contact Lay Assistant Minister Tiffany Clark.
