National Physician Suicide Awareness Day: NAM's focus on physician well-being through PROSPER

National Physician Suicide Awareness Day (#NPSADay) is September 17. We can all help prevent physician burnout and suicide by learning the signs, starting the conversations, understanding the underlying barriers, and sharing the resources that can help those in distress seek mental health care.
  • Burnout - In response to the growing concern of burnout among physicians, the Nashville Academy of Medicine and the Medical Foundation of Nashville have launched PROSPER to provide resources and support and to encourage Middle Tennessee physicians to reach out before they are in crisis.

  • Vital Signs - Click here to learn the vital signs if you or someone you know is struggling

37th Geriatric Update Conference: Moving Forward post Pandemic

October 6, 2023 - Hosted on Zoom by NAM Board Members, James S. Powers, MD and Parul Goyal, MD.
The pandemic has exposed gaps in care important to quality of life, social determinants of health, culturally sensitive care, health inequities, and person-centered care. The proposed curriculum will address COVID-19 response and recovery, health promotion, community health collaboration, provider resillience, and telehealth implementation through a lens of health equity and diversity, leveraging existing partnerships and trusted messengers.

Mental Health, Recovery, and Suicide Prevention Summit

September is National Recovery and Suicide Prevention Awareness month. A time for many people to reflect on those they have lost, their friends and family, or even their own personal struggle with suicide or substance use disorder. It is important to prepare ourselves as best we can with the knowledge of what to do if one of our patients or someone in our lives experiences a suicidal crisis.

It is with this thought in mind that the Tennessee Pharmacy Recovery Network, the Tennessee Medical Foundation, the Tennessee Dental Wellness Foundation, and the Tennessee Professional Assistance Program have teamed up to develop the first Tennessee Interprofessional Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Summit. The summit will offer 4 hours of education aimed at promoting education on mental health, resiliency, recovery, and tools you can use to help someone who may be having suicidal thoughts.
