In their 2022 book, The Story of American Religion (Westminster John Knox) authors James Hudnut-Beumler and James Byrd explored more than 400 years of religion in North America and the Caribbean. Two recurrent themes in the book bear faithful reflection in a season of celebration for the nation’s 250th birthday and voting for state and federal leaders. The first is Religion, Immigration, and Belonging, which will be topic of James Hudnut-Beumler’s class on September 13th. The second focuses on How Christian Does American Politics Get? (by someone’s definition at various points) for a class on September 20th. Here, Hudnut-Beumler will reflect on the means by which, even in a country with religious freedom in the Constitution, politicians and religious leaders wrap the cross and flag together to influence others.

Fourth and 5th grades go upstairs to their classrooms on the second floor of the Wilson wing. Sign-in sheets are at the bottom of the stairs.
