Welcome to the August Edition of the Comfort Connection!

August is Gastroparesis Awareness Month, so in recognition of that, we've gathered resources to help you (and your loved ones) learn more about this stomach condition.
"I’ve had mild GP flare ups my entire life. I used to sometimes wake up in the night with stomach pain and odd stomach contractions as a kid. I had more than one Upper G.I. test, but they never did provide any answers. Then the symptoms would go away again and I’d forget about it.

Then, in my late 40’s the symptoms suddenly started again, but worse..."

Caregiver of the Month

Congratulations to our latest Caregiver of the Month, May S.!
We’re proud to recognize May S. as our July 2025 Caregiver of the Month! May brings dedication, heart, and professionalism to everything she does. She loves working with COHC for the flexible schedule that supports her life as a mom, and she values the strong work ethic of the office staff. What sets May apart is her thoughtful preparation, she carefully reviews each client’s information and care plan, approaching every visit with the mindset of being fully equipped to meet their unique needs. Her goal is always to make each visit meaningful and worthy of a return.
Outside of work, May enjoys seasonal activities like fishing, gardening, and exploring local parks, and finds peace in listening to music. We chose May because of her reliability, attention to detail, and the compassion she shows our clients every day. She truly embodies what it means to be an exceptional caregiver.
Congratulations, May, and thank you for everything you do!

Recipe of the Month: Anti-Inflammatory Cherry-Spinach Smoothie

This healthy smoothie is not only delicious—it also boosts your daily dose of anti-inflammatory foods. It starts with a base of creamy gut-friendly kefir and includes cherries, which can lower the inflammatory marker C-reactive protein. Heart-healthy fats in avocado, almond butter and chia seeds deliver additional anti-inflammatory compounds to the body, while spinach offers a mix of antioxidants that sweep up harmful free radicals. Fresh ginger adds zing, plus a compound called gingerol, which preliminary studies suggest may improve inflammatory markers of heart disease if consumed daily.
