Dear Pilot parents and families,

We know that extreme weather has impacted students and families all over the country this past week, and we pray everyone is safe and warm. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to discuss with your student how they can prepare for future weather-related emergencies.
As our office looks ahead to programming possibilities in the future, we’d love to hear from you! Please take this brief survey to let us know what topics you think would be most helpful to learn about as we partner together in your student’s success, development, and well-being during college.

Lastly, February is Black History month! We invite you to celebrate the amazing students, staff, and faculty of the Black community who make incredible contributions to UP. Watch this moving video by Portland Pilots student athletes.
As always, please reach out if there's anything we can help you with!

Sincerely,
Katie Seccombe

LIBRARY RESOURCES FOR SPRING 2021

This semester, the main floor of the Clark Library building is available as a study space for students in the University's COVID testing pool. For all students, wherever they are located, the Library continues to provide online access to books, articles, and more to ensure they have quality sources for their academic work. Library staff and librarians are here to help, so please encourage your student to contact them with any questions.

YOUR STUDENT'S INTERNSHIP & JOB SEARCH

While May still seems far away, now is the time for students to start making plans for what they are going to do this summer. Even in these unprecedented times, the current circumstances have created new opportunities for you to help. Check out some helpful advice from the Career Education Center, and encourage your student to start exploring options early!

PREPARING FOR SUMMER COURSES

Even though final decisions regarding the instructional format for UP Summer Sessions have not yet been made, it is helpful for students to start thinking and planning ahead, especially if they’re considering learning opportunities outside of UP. Encourage them to review this important information regarding summer courses. Please note that further decisions regarding Summer Session I will be shared with the campus community by March 5.

IS YOUR STUDENT ON SWITCHBOARD?

One of the advantages of being a Pilot is tapping into the strong UP community of alumni, faculty, staff, and families. Encourage your student to visit UP Switchboard, where they can find career advice, tips on navigating life after graduation, or even housing!

Some first-year students may be feeling more confident during their second semester, while other students may be facing new anxieties. No matter how your student is feeling, we always appreciate your help in reminding them of the great resources available to support their academic and overall well-being. Gain insight into what students may be feeling and what resources they can tap into.

SUPPORT THE IMMEDIATE NEEDS OF STUDENTS

98% of students at UP receive financial aid during a normal year. This year the need is even greater, as many students and their families have suffered financial setbacks and hardship due to the impacts of COVID-19. But the UP community remains committed to helping our incredible students hold onto their dreams of a UP education. Learn more about how you can support the immediate needs of students, or how your student can benefit from the generosity of others if they are experiencing need at this time.
