Tasting Pass

We mailed a small sign to all of the participating wineries, to remind your staff which offer you are giving pass holders.

If you are a participating winery, share the link, help sell them. They are a GREAT deal for the visitor and will hopefully encourage them to buy more wine.

Industry Tasting / Discounts

Things have changed across the board in Tasting Rooms, and industry people should not assume they will be getting anything comped when they visit other wineries.

It is best to check with the winery before scheduling to see if they will even host industry on the weekends. Many wineries have changed their “industry” benefits and they are less than what they used to be. Wineries have let me know (multiple times) how difficult it is when industry folks want a comp tasting on a weekend. With such a tight reservation system in place now, most wineries do not have the space or staff to host industry on the weekends.

If you are going tasting, be sure to bring your business cards to show you are actively working in the industry and please do not assume the tasting will be free. Check in advance, and do not ask in front of the wineries other guests. Please pass this on to all of your staff.

Moving to YELLOW tier

As I'm wiring this I am not sure if we are moving to YELLOW today, but it was assumed. Yellow allows wineries to serve indoors at 50% capacity. If this happens, it wil take place starting this Friday.

Wineries, breweries and distilleries where no meals are served could jump to 50% capacity or 200 people, whichever is fewer. Restaurants would remain at 50% indoor capacity.

Private outdoor gatherings, with public health safety precautions in place, can increase from 50 to 100 people. Indoor gatherings are strongly discouraged, but would be allowed at 50% capacity or 50 people, whichever is fewer.

By June 15, however, California intends to drop the color-coded tiers and fully reopen the state.

We understand that all wineries are in a different position and some are more inclined to keep the facemask requirement in place for all visitors and continue to limit the size of groups.

New Responsible Beverage Service Training Portal

The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (CA ABC) has launched a new Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) training portal for managers and servers at bars, clubs, restaurants, wineries, breweries and distilleries. Beginning July 1, 2022, all alcohol servers, on-sale licensees, and their managers must have valid RBS certification from an ABC approved RBS training provider and pass an online ABC administered RBS exam. RBS training is a requirement of Assembly Bill 1221, signed into law in 2017. For additional information, visit the portal and review the list of FAQs.
