Note from our Office
Dear Calumet County 4‑H,
April brings with it a true feeling of Spring—warmer days, greener landscapes, and a renewed sense of excitement for what’s ahead. With the season in full swing, this is a great time to start looking ahead to summer opportunities and all the ways our members can continue to grow their sparks.
Now is the perfect time to sign up for 4‑H camps and Spark Workshops! These experiences give youth the chance to try something new, build friendships, strengthen skills, and discover interests that can last a lifetime. Whether it’s an outdoor adventure, a hands‑on workshop, or a leadership‑focused opportunity, there’s something for everyone to explore.
As our clubs and families gear up for a busy and exciting time of year, we’re inspired by the enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication shown across our 4‑H community. Let’s continue nurturing curiosity, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging as we move forward together this Spring.
If you ever need help, ideas, or support, our office is always here for you. I can be reached on my work cell at 920‑483‑0646 or by email at carlea.liermann@wisc.edu.
Wishing you a joyful and energizing month ahead!
Sincerely,
Carlea Liermann

☀️ Summer Day Camp Volunteers Needed!
We are looking for youth and adult volunteers to help make our 4‑H Summer Day Camps possible this year! Volunteers play a key role in assisting with activities, supporting campers, and helping create a fun and safe learning environment.
✅ Who can volunteer?
- Youth in 8th grade and older - Adults who are willing to help supervise and support camp activities
Having enough volunteers allows us to hold our day camps and potentially open additional spots, giving more youth the chance to participate in these fun summer opportunities.
If you’re interested in volunteering, please complete the Google Interest Form linked below so we can learn more about your availability and interests. We’ll follow up with details as camps get closer.
Thank you for helping us make a big impact this summer—we truly couldn’t do it without our volunteers!

Grades: 8th-11th Location: UW-Madison Dates: Sunday, June 14 through Thursday, June 18, 2026 Registration: will open March 6, 2026 via 4-H Online Cost: Experience fee is $150
Summer Academy is the Positive Youth Development Institute’s signature career, leadership, & college readiness conference hosted at UW-Madison. The event focuses on preparing young people (grades 8-11) for higher education in a way that complements formal education prep programs. Summer Academy offers an immersive college experience; participants will experience life in a residence hall, explore campus, and enjoy the unique elements of higher ed that only Madison can offer.
This year’s theme is The Quest; Summer Academy participants will answer the call to adventure across the UW-Madison campus and explore their next steps in their career and college readiness journey! They will choose between exploratory tracks that introduce them to a variety of different Sparks and activities, core tracks that allow them to explore an area of interest in-depth, or an Advanced Art Track where youth will focus deeply on a specific area of arts.

Key Award Applications!
What is the Key Award? How does it work? This prestigious award is the highest recognition a 4-H member can receive and honors a select group of 4-H participants annually. The youth receiving this award are those who have demonstrated consistent growth in their 4-H involvement, developed and applied their leadership skills, and actively participated in their club and community.
Selection of Key Award recipients is the responsibility of each county. Selection should be based on an evaluation of the candidate’s total 4-H record (membership, projects, activities, leadership, personal development, and county 4-H and community involvement.) If a leader’s child applies, please identify another leader who can complete the recommendation on the youth’s behalf. County award winners will receive a certificate and pin from the State 4-H Office. It is strongly recommended that counties include Key Award presentations as part of a county 4-H awards program or special event.
Qualifications: - Youth must be in 11th – 13th grade - Youth must be a 4-H member for at least 3 years - Selection is based on the evaluation of the member in the following areas: * Membership / Club Experience * Projects * Activities * Leadership * Personal Development * County 4-H and Community Involvement
Applications can be found HERE and are due Thursday, April 30th to the Extension Office.
