Dear Student,
I am writing to inform you about the recent departure of your advising dean and to introduce you to those who will serve as your advising deans this Spring.
Stephanie Frazitta has accepted an opportunity elsewhere and will be departing Tufts on January 13. Dean Frazitta joined Tufts as Associate Dean of Undergraduate Advising in July 2020. During her time here, she has contributed her skills, energy, and expertise toward directing our Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program, serving as an advising dean for the Liberal Arts M–R alphabet cohort, and supporting efforts to improve student retention and the first-year experience. She departs for Northeastern, where she will serve as Director of Undergraduate Advising for the College of Science. Please join me in congratulating Dean Frazitta and wishing her well on her new endeavor.
I am very pleased to announce that Susan Koegel has returned to Tufts to serve as an Interim Associate Dean for the Spring semester. As Interim Associate Dean, Susan Koegel will serve a five-month period (mid-January through mid-June) as advising dean for the Liberal Arts M–R cohort while we strive to fill the open advising dean position permanently this May or June. From 2010 to 2019, Dean Koegel taught in Tufts' Department of Biology. She taught BIO 13, BIO 46, and BIO 52 and served as advisor and mentor to students studying Biology, Biopsychology, and Biochemistry. She also collaborated extensively with the Academic Resource Center to establish a peer-based, tutor-led study group program to increase student persistence in biology. Dean Koegel's excellence as a teacher and advisor at Tufts has been recognized through several awards, including the Lerman-Neubauer Prize, Teaching with Technology Award, and Tufts University Professor of the Year. We will send another message in coming weeks introducing you to Dean Koegel.
Another Associate Dean will be joining the Arts and Sciences advising dean team in February. Her name is Caitlin Casey, and she comes to Tufts from Harvard, where she served as a residential house dean for the past decade. Dean Casey will be serving the Liberal Arts alphabet cohort of S–Z, replacing the role most recently filled by Robin Olinsky. I will send a detailed introduction to Dean Casey after she starts at Tufts in February. For the Spring semester "alpha dean" assignments, please see below.
See below for the new alphabet distribution and more information about how to make an appointment with your Advising Dean. Your Advising Dean ensures that you are making progress toward graduation and can help you navigate academic policies or any setbacks that impact your academics. The Senior Academic Advisors and your Advising Dean will be working remotely through January 24, but they are available for virtual appointments.
