Grand Valley State University Alumni Association E-News
 DECEMBER 2020
As with much of 2020, this year's holiday season looks different. The Alumni Relations team encourages our Grand Valley family to look out for one another, stay safe, and find joy despite the challenges we all face.
One way to support your fellow Lakers is by doing some of your holiday shopping with an Alumni Owned Business. Another way is calling an old roommate or sending a note of kindness to a friend. Lost touch? Fill out our Alumni Finder Form,
we may be able to help!

Opening Easier Conversations on Race With Dar Mayweather, '07 & '09, is our first event in the new Sustaining Change Series. In this January 12 webinar, Dar guides participants toward a deeper, more universal understanding of race so individuals and groups can build relationships across racial differences. Participants will learn that opening conversations on racial issues in an organization, committee meetings, or one-on-one discussions is a relational process.

On November 11, GVSU President Philomena V. Mantella announced a new initiative called the GVSU Veteran Promise. This initiative guarantees admission to Grand Valley for enlisted 2021 Michigan high school graduates. The GVSU Veteran Promise is another way to build on Grand Valley’s historical commitment to veterans.

On December 1, alumni came together to support Grand Valley students through the Giving Tuesday campaign. While students face the uncertainties that lie ahead this year, your generous gifts help them start, stay, and succeed at GVSU. Thank you, Lakers!
Missed making your gift on Giving Tuesday? It's never too late to support our students.
