KU's New IT Procurement Policy Offers Efficiency, Security |
KU implemented a new procurement policy earlier this year required KU Information Technology and Procurement to jointly review all software purchases. In addition to complying with a KBOR requirement that university IT offices review and approve all technology purposes, there are important reasons for the new policy.
Cost and Efficiency: Identifying and avoiding duplicative software purchases reduces unnecessary expenses, optimizes our technology resources, improves campus efficiency and gets us closer to realizing market pay for all employees.
Cybersecurity: Third-party software solutions are the number one cyber-risk for universities. The review process assesses security vulnerabilities and protects institutional and personal data.
Accessibility: Reviewing for accessibility ensures that individuals are not excluded and supports our principles of access, belonging, respect and success.
