Fostering Collaboration

Fostering Collaboration is a Wellness Champion competency that focuses on building community within the Champion's Circle of Influence (see the Champion competency model located in the Champion Manual). This competency exemplifies how Wellness Champions listen to their co-workers and collaborate with HR and other Champions to increase well-being in their department. Successful Wellness Champions bring co-workers together to promote well-being initiatives and effectively communicate with their supervisors to gain support in their roles as Champions.
Practical Ways to Foster Collaboration:
  • Be a Team Captain during a Wellness Challenge
  • Promote Well-being programs (i.e., mindfulness sessions, health screenings, MyWay to Health consultations, etc.)
  • Have a conversation with your supervisor about what it means to be a Champion and discuss how they can partner with you to support you
  • Communicate well-being initiatives to colleagues and encourage them to participate
  • Provide feedback to HR Well-being on existing programs, which influences future programming
  • Utilize Microsoft Teams to engage with other Champions and communicate with your co-workers
If have any questions or want to brainstorm ways to foster collaboration in your department, please reach out to me via email: lynchc@wustl.edu

HR WELL-BEING TEAM SPOTLIGHT

Meet Emily Strong: Wellness Coordinator

Emily moved to St. Louis in 2004 after graduating from the University of Oklahoma and joined WashU Pediatrics in 2010. Emily was a Wellness Champion and enjoyed creating wellness opportunities for the pediatric fellows that she worked closely with. Emily now coordinates wellness programs and events for employees while being a direct point of contact for employees with questions regarding wellness program participation. Outside of the office, Emily is either looking for new off-road adventures with her fiancé and dogs, playing sports or planning her next trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Emily's role focuses on coordinating the bi-annual Take Care Health Fair, all of our wellness challenges and helping Champions host screenings in their departments. If you are interested in hosting a health screening, please fill out this form.
HR Well-being is an employee health initiative that, in partnership with Washington University experts, offers opportunities for employees to improve their physical and emotional well-being. This initiative focuses on developing evidence-based programs and making personal connections to provide employees with valuable and fun experiences that improve their health. We aim to foster a culture that prioritizes employee health and well-being as integral to the mission of teaching, research, and patient care, and create an environment where the healthier choice is the easiest choice; where employees are empowered to choose wellness.
WashU Wellness Champions help us understand the needs within different work environments, promote the importance of personal health, and encourage their coworkers to engage in wellness program offerings.
