1. FTW
This Sunday begins a six-week journey through the life-giving letter that is 1 Thessalonians. Our series title, FTW, is a common acronym meaning For The Win used to celebrate a victory. For our purposes, however, we’re going to morph this into “Faith That Works.”
Before Sunday...
  • Will you read through 1 Thessalonians?
  • Will you begin working on our memory verse, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18?
2. Church Staff Reorganization
While 2020 brought multiple challenges, it also taught us many things. With the departure of Sarah and Mark Groves, responsibilities had to shift among the team and we seized the opportunity to reimagine ways to accomplish the work of the church.
This led to us reorganizing our current staff structure with guidance from the Personnel Committee. While this list does not cover all the realignments, it does provide information about some of the primary changes:
  • Susan Payne is taking on a new role as Connections Pastor, leading ministry through adult groups, communicating with new members, and helping existing members connect and serve.
  • Ansley Alfano’s role as Kids Pastor is now expanded to include all children birth through 5th grade.
  • Chris Gillespie will add church-wide graphics and marketing to his current responsibilities as Student and Missions Pastor.
  • Mark O’Connor’s role in music ministry has been expanded to be our Interim Worship Pastor.
I am deeply grateful for these and the many others at Deermeadows who have taken on new responsibilities to serve the church and our community.
3. Chaos at the Capital
Early this morning I watched reports about what happened last night at our nation’s capital – a disruption leading to deaths and injuries. My own emotions are still swirling over what took place. As your pastor, I am called to remind you of at least three things:
  1. Pray earnestly for our leaders and our nation. (1 Timothy 2:1-2)
  2. We are first and foremost citizens of Heaven (Philippians 3:20) – our lives show what God is like.
  3. Nowhere in the New Testament do we see violence condoned for followers of Jesus. On the contrary, we see followers of Jesus suffering for their faith and the glory of God. (Acts 7:55-8:1)
Live a Life Worthy (Ephesians 4:1-2),
Larry

Update from the Worship Pastor Search Committee:
Thank you for the overwhelming response to the Congregational Survey -- we had almost 350 responses! The survey will remain open and we encourage anyone who has not had a chance yet, please prayerfully consider the questions and submit. We are always monitoring for new submissions and take everything to heart, especially the thoughtful comments. You can submit your responses HERE.
Even with the hustle and bustle of the holidays, over 30 candidates have been reviewed so far -- some submitted by church members, and many who heard about the opportunity via word of mouth or from postings on various job boards. Since 2020 required so many churches to pivot to livestream and online broadcasting for their services, this has allowed our committee to gather insight into the candidates more quickly because of the availability of recorded content. That said, we are certainly doing our due diligence to make certain that the person God has for us fits the criteria and high bar we have set. If you would like to share the job description with a prospective candidate, you can find it on the Deermeadows Job Openings page.
Do you know someone you believe would be a good candidate? You can submit their name and information HERE.
Please continue to keep the committee in your prayers and know that we are working very hard to find the right person to lead Deermeadows today and into the future.
