Last Friday, we commissioned 356 graduates. In the Bible, the word therefore signifies everything that has happened up until this point is important. Thinking about our graduates, I can’t help but borrow the term. Therefore, go. Because of everything that has gone before this moment, go into the world. Because of the families that you came from, because of the education you received, because of the friendships, because of difficult person-forming discussions in class, because of your internship experience, because of your relationships, because of all of these things…go!
Often these because statements lead to instructions on what is next: the so that. Graduates, don’t just go…go so that you continue in your kingdom-curiosity that will unpack more of God’s creativity, lead to innovation, and present a good news proclamation to your neighbors. All your understanding has led to more than mere comprehension, but to the belief that transformation is only found in a God who is in all, is for all, and intends to bring all back to himself. Go, therefore, and make disciples, so that the world may know him who sent you.

Dordt College receives $355,268 National Science Foundation grant

Dordt College professors Mark Christians (psychology), Luralyn Helming (psychology), Mark McCarthy (history) and Nathan Tintle (statistics), have received a three-year, $355,268 grant from the National Science Foundation to facilitate a research program for undergraduates that explores the effects of political upheaval and ethnic discord on the mental health of Ukrainian citizens.

Using an interdisciplinary approach, their research will provide undergraduate students a unique opportunity to make meaningful contributions to health and policy research issues in a developing country.

Senior psychology major Matt Bolt (Colorado Springs, Colorado) participated in a pilot version of the program last summer, exploring relationships between exposure to the Chernobyl nuclear accident and various longterm mental health issues. This summer he is leveraging his experience at Dordt to participate in a summer research program in Colorado.
