Lauren Wilson Cares About Customers and Co-workers
Lauren Wilson's (she/her) supervisor was impressed with her commitment to helping passengers and employees during the February snowstorm:
"Lauren was the opener for Tender Loving Empire during the record-setting snow day. She was cautious coming to work but made sure to arrive early so individuals stuck at the airport had access to food and drinks.
Many of the travelers had been stranded or waiting since the day before. By arriving early, she set the store up for success and made sure arriving customers had access to treats and drinks."

What's New with PDX Next: Gate D6 Closure, International Arrivals, Ticket Lobby and June Forum
Gate D6: Starting Monday, June 19, through early October, Gate D6 is closed for construction, and JetBlue and Sun Country will operate on Concourse C. This closure also impacts the road and walkway between Concourse D and Concourse C; paths are shifted to the west and have new striping painted to mark the route.
International Arrivals: On Wednesday, June 21, Thursday, June 22, Monday, June 26, and Tuesday, June 27, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., the International Arrivals corridor will narrow to four feet while crews do preliminary work in the area to prepare for the corridor reroute. On Monday, June 19, through Wednesday, June 21, from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., several areas will be blocked off for safety while cranes are moving materials. These include the pet relief area on Concourse C, the Market, the restrooms at the far east end of Concourse C, and makeup units 2 and 3.
Ticket LobbyDuring the week of June 19, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., expect moderate noise in the ticket lobby's DE overflow queue area. As a reminder, this work is part of removing old parts of the ceiling and reveal the new roof – we're less than one year out from opening the new main terminal! We hope you'll continue providing friendly and knowledgeable service for travelers, as they may have questions about the changes.
June ForumDo you wonder what exactly the overhead work in the ticket lobby is all about or what's next for baggage claim? On Tuesday, June 27, at 10 a.m., Jen Reynolds with the Port of Portland along with Pat Bifone and Bri Leiblie of Hoffman-Skanska will share the latest construction updates, give you an early look at architectural renderings and behind-the-scenes photos and videos – all in under 30 minutes! You can call in or watch online, just email PDX People Communications before Tuesday, June 27, for the meeting link.

Celebrating Art of the Album and Concert at PDX
For 60 years, the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts has proudly presented unique art exhibits including more than 600 local, national and international artists. This year, our PDX Art Program is partnering with the festival for a satellite pop-up exhibit with three unique large-scale banners highlighting the collaboration between music and visual art. Now on view in the Rental Car Center lobby, the PDX “sneak peek” features the work of Portland locals Gary Houston, Emek and Tim Oakley – three of the top poster artists in the world who have worked for artists including Elton John, Rolling Stones, Soundgarden, Willie Nelson, Foo Fighters and the Grateful Dead.

Juneteenth: Celebrating Progress and Change
Juneteenth – named by blending the words June and nineteenth – is the commemoration and oldest known celebration of the end of slavery in the United States.
On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers led by Major General Gordon Granger landed at Galveston, Texas, with news that, "The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with the proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free" – two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. On June 17, 2021, President Biden signed a bill recognizing Juneteenth as a federal holiday, the first new national holiday since the creation of Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983.
As you learn about the history and importance of Juneteenth, take a moment to reflect on this message from former President Obama: "Juneteenth has never been a celebration of victory or an acceptance of the way things are. It’s a celebration of progress. It’s an affirmation that despite the most painful parts of our history, change is possible – and there is still so much work to do."
Plan Extra Time While MAX Red Line Switches to Shuttle Buses
If you regularly take the bus to get to and from the airport, you likely noticed that shuttle buses are now serving all TriMet MAX Red Line stations between Gateway and PDXThe temporary closure will continue through late October, and we're encouraging travelers and employees alike to plan an extra 30 minutes of travel time and follow signs for “MAX Shuttle.”
In Fall 2024, look forward to more reliable service to and from PDX with a second rail track, 10 more Red Line stations in Beaverton and Hillsboro, a completely remodeled PDX platform and plaza area, and a new pedestrian-bicycle path that parallels the light rail tracks and ultimately continues to the 82nd/Air Cargo Road intersection at the PDX Travel Center. Request for Qualifications Announced for PDX Meeter/Greeter Art
The Port of Portland is working with the Regional Arts & Culture Council and inviting artists to submit their qualifications for the design and installation of a permanent public art display that will be a part of the PDX terminal redevelopment project. Please help spread the word about the opportunity for two different artists or artist teams to each create a large-scale, signature 2D artwork to be installed at the north and south exit lanes. These works will greet travelers and staff leaving the secured area of the airport, and will be experienced by friends and family waiting to greet travelers while they relax in the spacious and furnished waiting area.

PDX in Pictures
Last week, PDX People teamed up with the Port of Portland's LGBTQIA+ employee resource group to celebrate Pride. The colorful crew started at Elephant's Deli in the ticket lobby and went from rental cars to runway, handing out flags, pins, stickers and treats along the way. The group was hard to miss and easy to appreciate, and many travelers were excited to support their efforts…and pet a few therapy dogs, too!
