Nearly two years after Tally the turtle washed up on a beach in the UK, scientists from the Gulf Center for Sea Turtle Research helped reintroduce her to her natural habitat.

For over three decades, the Seafood Safety Lab at the Galveston campus has monitored bacteria found in shellfish, seawater and non-potable water from Galveston Bay.

We sat down with marine biology professor and interim department head Dr. Anna Armitage to talk about the importance of coastal wetlands both during and after a hurricane. 

Every summer, the campus welcomes over 1,000 students of all ages to experience the unique and hands-on educational marine opportunities of Sea Camp. Many of those campers grow up to attend Texas A&M-Galveston.

On Friday, August 18, Liberal Studies Professor Dr. Samuel Mark received the 2023 College-Level Teaching Award at the annual Academic Affairs Forum. 

"I want [my students] to have an understanding of what the individuals that have gone before me have gone through, so that when they step foot onboard their first vessel, they can be confident that they are going to have a career that  they are going to be interested in five, ten years down the road."
