PHY Ph.D. Student has Paper Selected in APS Journal |
Physics accelerated doctoral student Gabe Sorci, with his advisor Igor Pikovski (PHY Geoffrey S. Inman '51 Assistant Professor), had a paper selected as an Editors' Suggestion in the prestigious APS Journal's Physical Review Letters.
Their paper, "Quantum signatures of proper time in optical ion clocks," – a collaboration with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Colorado State University's ion trap quantum computing groups – shows that state-of-the-art optical clocks can detect effects that require a quantum, not just classical, description of time.
