Teacher Spotlight – Dixeen Toliver is a highly respected and veteran member of the Lucille Brown MS community. After nearly 30 years at the school, there are few places she can go where she doesn't run into a former student, their family, or an RPS colleague. Ms. Toliver encourages her students to excel academically while also encouraging them every day to be their best selves. As a colleague, she is always available for advice and words of encouragement – especially for new teachers seeking mentorship!

Shout-Outs – Please help us continue to inspire and uplift the RPS community by submitting shout-outs to shoutouts@rvaschools.net. Entries can be submitted in Spanish or English!
- A huge thank you to the entire Summer Hill staff for accommodating the elementary principals for their meeting. We recognize that you are knee-deep in end-of-the-year activities and tasks. Your flexibility in parking off campus, practicing for your ceremonies in your classrooms, and everything else you do daily is greatly appreciated.
- Shout-out to Corless Brown at Bellevue Elementary. She is a dedicated reading intervention teacher. She participates in professional development and coaching to improve her practice. She is still teaching her SIPPS group because she is determined to get her students to the end of the level before the end of the year. When students are behind they need extra to accelerate learning and catch up to their peers. If she were running a race, Ms. Brown would be starting the sprint to the finish line!
- I want to shout-out Ms. Tarry and Mrs. Evelyn Cooke, school nutrition staff professionals who we find priceless at Mary Munford. Ms Tarry's hard work and dedication to the students comes across in everything she does – from cooking to assisting in choices for them. Mrs. Cooke has a way with the students that is both strong and loving. Shout-out to Mary Munford's cafeteria heroes!
- A huge shout-out to Mrs. Michael at PHSSA for always ensuring students have fun and creative experiences ranging from river adventures to "All Kids Bike" to Amaze Day – just to name a few. She put so much work into Amaze Day and the kids had an incredible time. We are so grateful for Mrs. Michael!
- We at Huguenot High School are grateful for the safety, compassion, and care that our dedicated CSAs and SSAs provide each day. Specifically, we thank Officer Harry Brown (RPD-SRO School Resource Officer) and Lead CSA Wilinda Brown for their leadership and commitment in providing specialized school security support to ensure that our educational services can run smoothly. As a school community, we are made to feel safe each day, knowing that Peggy Morris (CSA), Raymond Epps (CSA), Sabrina Pollard (CSA), Jaida Williams (SSA), and Angelique Henderson (SSA) are a part of our Huguenot family!
- Shout-out to the amazing students at Huguenot High School in Ms. Turner's class who have participated in creating and presenting digital portfolios!! You all did a fabulous job and are going to change the world with your positivity! Special thank you to Ms. Turner, Ms. Williams, and Ms. Nancy for helping support the process and fostering the classroom community. Another big, big thank you to our partners at Project PEACE for being collaborative partners and helping our students find their voice.
- I'd like to shout-out Alease Johnson, school counselor at T.C. Boushall Middle School, for organizing an amazing Honor Society induction this morning! Her attention to detail is enviable and her passion for this program doesn't go unnoticed! I am grateful for the hours of time that you put into this event. It was a beautiful ceremony and it was so delightful to see so many parents and family members attend! Thank you, Ms. Johnson!!!!!
- I'd like to shout-out Mr. Toombes, lead custodian at T.C. Boushall Middle School, and his crew for all of their efforts towards setting up the library for the Honor Society induction. We are so thankful for your hard work! The space looked amazing – thank you, thank you!!!!!
- I'd like to shout-out Mr. Cipolla, ETI at T.C. Boushall Middle School, for curating math games to use with my new Donors Choose resources! You always say "yes," and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it!!!! Thank you Mr. Cipolla!!!!!
- I would like to extend a huge shout-out to Ms. Hawkins, Ms. Wilson, their classroom staff, and the administration at John Marshall High School, along with the amazing group of students for their efforts during the Photovoice project. Their hard work was evident in the gallery that showcased their pictures. It was so uplifting to hear their stories and their desires regarding employment after high school. They were so eager to work that they also organized and packed the ESY boxes needed for summer school. Thank you all for being willing and supportive of our students and providing an environment where they can succeed.
- I would like to give a shout-out to Mr. Jerome Woodson, 5th grade teacher at Cardinal Elementary School. Mr. Woodson has embraced 5th grade from the start. He sets his class expectations high and his students work hard to rise to them. Mr. Woodson has worked closely with his collaborative partner to plan and implement lessons that are engaging and show his students what it means to work as a team. Thank you, Mr. Woodson, we are lucky to have you!
