From the Office of the Dean |
Good afternoon! I hope that this Monday following Thanksgiving finds you all refreshed after time with family and friends, and that you’re ready for these last weeks of the semester!
Like most folks during the holiday break, I spent time reflecting on what I am thankful for, as I spent a few days with my family enjoying some time together. I remain incredibly thankful for each and every one of you in our CHDCM community, and grateful to be serving you in my role as Dean of the College. As we enter a stressful period of exams, holiday-related errands and travel—not to mention the end of the semester crunch—I will personally be drawing upon this feeling of strong community here at SHU and in our College, and I hope you all are able to do the same!
As you’ll see in this edition of our biweekly newsletter, this is a busy time for us here in CHDCM, with lots going on this week! We have another of our new traditions, the CHDCM tree lighting reception tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5:30pm—see below for details, and hope to see you there! We’re also celebrating the final master class of the semester from our Professional-in-Residence, Peter King, 2-4pm on December 4—if you haven’t yet RSVP’d for his session on “How to Get a Job in the Media,” you really should, by clicking here!
We’re also in the midst of course registrations for Spring 2025, so below you’ll find some information about a couple of new undergraduate classes we’re offering, in case you missed them. BUT: whether or not you’re interested in these specific courses, if you’re a current CHDCM student who hasn’t yet registered, now is a great time to do so. As we head toward finals for this semester, don’t miss the chance to add the classes you want and need for Spring!
With that, read on, and enjoy the good news and shout outs from and for the people and programs of CHDCM! As always, keep your own good news and event notes coming, have a great start to this cold, cold week, and hope to see you all at the CHDCM tree lighting reception tomorrow!

Congratulations to Dr. Ruth Tsuria for receiving a review in the American Academy of Religion. Dr. Tsuria wrote Keeping Women in Their Digital Place (2024, Penn State University Press) with the objective to investigate the ways in which Orthodox Jewish communities in Israel and the United States have created "digital enclaves"—to negotiate and reinterpret traditional values when faced with delicate or forbidden subjects on the internet.

Student Organization Highlight |
Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) is the official Communication Studies honor society of the National Communication Association, proudly represented at Seton Hall University as the Omicron Theta Chapter. The society primarily serves students in CHDCM, offering many opportunities to network with other academically focused students. LPH hosts events such as resume workshops, sports media panels, writing and creativity sessions, as well as fun and interactive activities like Lambda Pi(E) Your Professor and holiday parties. These events are tailored to help students build their communication skills and translate them into professional opportunities.
In addition to organizing its own events, LPH collaborates with other campus organizations, including the Setonian (the school newspaper) and the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), to offer a well-rounded experience for its members. By fostering connections within the campus community and beyond, LPH creates opportunities for personal and professional development.
If you are interested in joining, please email @jacqueline.litowinsky@student.shu.edu to be added to the email list! Also, follow LPH on Instagram @shu_lambdapieta.
