Welcome to AFSA Annie McPherson, Briana Perry, and Macy Johnson-Hogue! |
AFSA has recently had new team members join us, we are happy to introduce the newest members of AFSA!
Annie McPherson recently joined UTHSC as the Financial Aid Counselor for the College of Medicine. A Memphis native, Annie holds a Master’s in Leadership and Policy Studies with a concentration in Student Affairs, and a bachelor’s in Integrated Educational Studies with a minor in American Sign Language, both from the University of Memphis. Her background includes academic coaching and program development, and she’s passionate about student success, accessibility, and creating supportive learning environments. Outside of work, Annie enjoys running, Orangetheory, and spending time with her pets—and she recently got engaged at the Memphis Zoo’s giraffe exhibit!
Briana Perry, Counselor, joined UTHSC on September 1 and brings a strong background in mental health counseling. Originally from Virginia, Briana holds a bachelor’s in psychology and a master’s in clinical mental health counseling. She is a licensed Associate Professional Counselor in Georgia and a certified QPR Gatekeeper instructor for suicide prevention. Briana is passionate about creating safe, inclusive spaces for students to be themselves and values connecting with individuals across disciplines. She believes in the power of silence as a therapeutic tool and enjoys engaging with students through outreach and campus events.
Macy Johnson-Hogue also joined UTHSC as a Counselor on September 1. Originally from Arkansas, Macy holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Counseling and is credentialed as a Temporary Licensed Professional Counselor with a Mental Health Service Provider designation in Tennessee. Her counseling approach is collaborative and strengths-based, drawing from evidence-based modalities to support students’ personal and academic growth. Macy’s experience in university and clinical settings informs her holistic care philosophy, and she values the everyday moments of collaboration with students and colleagues. She enjoys life’s simple pleasures—like morning coffee and quiet walks—and brings that same intentionality to her counseling work.
