VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: JOE POWERS & ARTHUR SNOKE
What started as a simple idea between two environmentally conscious neighbors has grown into a campus-wide effort with lasting impact.
Joe Powers and Arthur Snoke launched a plastic bag recycling initiative, encouraging residents to save and donate clean plastic bags using collection boxes across campus—or by dropping them off at Joe’s townhome. The bags were then sorted, weighed, and delivered to a TREX recycling program, which donates a bench for every 600 pounds of plastic collected.
Thanks to their dedication and the support of our community, at least six benches have been donated and now offer peaceful spots to rest—especially along our wooded hiking trails.
Joe and Arthur’s efforts remind us that small acts of care, when shared, can grow into something truly meaningful. Thank you both for your commitment to our environment and to Warm Hearth Village!

SURVIVING SPRING: EATING SMART THROUGH ALLERGY SEASON
Spring is a beautiful time of year, but for many, it also means sneezing, congestion, and itchy eyes. The good news? What you eat can help ease allergy symptoms and keep your immune system strong. Load up on colorful, anti-inflammatory foods like berries, leafy greens, and tomatoes. Boost your vitamin C with citrus, bell peppers, and kiwi, and add omega-3s from salmon or flaxseeds to fight inflammation. Staying hydrated and limiting processed sugar also goes a long way in helping your body manage allergens.
Some people even find relief with a spoonful of local honey! If dairy worsens your congestion, try cutting back and see how you feel. And don’t forget simple habits like rinsing with saline and getting enough sleep. With a few smart choices, you can enjoy the season feeling clear, calm, and energized.
