Dear Student,
Before you arrived,1,870 of you completed the Pre-Orientation Reflection. You shared about your hopes, concerns, and goals for your first few weeks here.
We promised your ideas would come back to you. So, as you begin your first six weeks at Tufts, here are four things worth noting about your class:

You’re looking for connection. 92% of you said you're hoping to engage with a new community, and 85% said a good start means having two or three people you can text. Look around, the people sitting next to you in class or the person in line in front of you in the dining hall probably want exactly what you want.

You’re independent. About 7 in 10 of you said you'd try to fix a setback yourself first. But, only about a third already know where you'd turn. Find your resources when you need them.

Independence is a strength, and knowing when you ask for help is a strength, too. Your Resident Assistant, your Pre O or Orientation Leader, your advisor, and the Student Life staff are all here to help you figure things out, and you don’t need to wait until it feels like a crisis to reach out.

Most of you arrived with mixed feelings about starting your Tufts journey. Your class's wellbeing scores are genuinely strong, and almost 50% of you described yourselves as "excited and nervous." If that’s you, you are not alone, you are the majority!

There’s no one right way to start your Tufts experiences. But, if you’re unsure about what to do next, consider one of these:

- Check out JumboLife to find upcoming events.

Go to the JumboLife website or download the Tufts JumboLife mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- Ask your RA a question – it could be about something as small as where they get their haircut near Tufts or as big as how they managed to find their way at Tufts.
- Plan a meal with someone new.
- Attend office hours and ask your professor a question, even if you haven’t had an exam yet.
- And lastly, don’t forget about Homecoming this Saturday!
