Responsible Conduct of Research Workshop

ORE and the Tickle College of Engineering have partnered to host a Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) awareness workshop on May 14, 2019, in the Toyota Auditorium at the Howard H. Baker Jr Center for Public Policy. Several funding agencies require mandatory training in RCR. This workshop will help meet these mandatory requirements. Lunch will be provided.
faculty in classroom
ORE plans to hire three Faculty Fellows for a one year appointment (possibly multi-year) beginning in the summer of 2019. We are seeking one Faculty Fellow from engineering, one from physical sciences, and one from social sciences. The application deadline is April 30, 2019.
SUMMIT supercomputer
Register to attend a presentation by Jeffrey Nichols, associate laboratory director for Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Computing and Computational Sciences. On April 18, Nichols will discuss how supercomputers have changed the way science is conducted in the national lab complex.
smiling
Smiling really can make people feel happier, according to a new paper published in Psychological Bulletin. Coauthored by researchers at UT and Texas A&M, the paper looked at nearly 50 years of data testing whether facial expressions can lead people to feel the emotions related to those expressions.

Upcoming Professional Development Opportunities

View details about these and more professional development opportunities on the ORE website.

Workshops for New Campus Chemical Inventory System

The Department of Environmental Health and Safety is implementing a new online system to help the campus community better track laboratory chemicals and other hazardous chemicals, such as cleaning agents, that are used at UT. BioRAFT will provide a place to maintain your chemical inventory as well as manage other health and safety lab functions such as hazard assessments, lab safety survey findings, and training requirements.

High Performance Computing Survey

A taskforce of campus colleagues charged by ORE has created a survey to better understand the needs of faculty, staff and students with respect to campus-supported High Performance Computing (HPC) for research. The outcomes of the survey, in combination with a series of visits to other universities, will be used in the assessment and improvement of HPC for research at UT.
