I am writing to announce that the Graduate School’s Office of Career and Life Design has officially launched, and to tell you more about the exciting opportunities designed to further the success of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at UT Austin and beyond.

Please save the date for the Grad Career Kickoff Party to celebrate the launch of this transformative new office on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, from 4-6 p.m. in the Peter T. Flawn Academic Center (FAC) on the second floor. There will be a professional photographer taking LinkedIn headshots, free food and drinks, career exploration activities, networking, the opportunity to meet the Career and Life Design team, resource sharing and more.

The Office of Career and Life Design (formerly the Texas Career Engagement advanced degree team) aims to provide a holistic and integrated approach to career and professional development in graduate and postdoctoral education. Its goal is to act as a hub for career, professional development and wellness activities specifically for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars across campus.

Grounded in the principles of design thinking, the office serves the unique and specialized needs of master’s and doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars to support scholarly success, career wayfinding and well-being. To meet these goals, the office provides individualized and group consultations, employer recruitment events, career and professional development workshops and courses, and offers graduate-level internships and career experiences to compliment the work taking place within colleges and schools.

In addition to working directly with individual graduate students and postdocs, the Career and Life Design team offers support for groups, whether departments or student organizations, interested in expanding career support for graduate students and postdocs. They will work with your organization to tailor workshops and presentations to meet your goals.
