TRIBE: Touch of RED

Fri and Sat, Oct 21 and 22, 8 p.m.
Created by the visionary arts collective TRIBE—led by artistic director and choreographer Shamel Pitts—Touch of RED will have its world premiere at MASS MoCA, co-presented by Jacob's Pillow. Reimaging the boxing ring from a space of duels to one of duets, Touch of RED challenges how we think about male vulnerability, utilizing projection, animation, and lighting to create an immersive world for its central duo as they turn a space of aggression into one of softness. Heather Maloney

Sat Oct 22, 8–11 p.m.
Indie darling Heather Maloney will perform at The Stationery Factory in Dalton. The Massachusetts-based songwriter/singer found music in the midst of three years at a meditation center, honing a sound moored in days of silent reflection and reverence for storytellers. She has eight studio album releases under her belt and released earlier this year her first live album, No Shortcuts | Live at the Academy on Signature Sounds. More info

Author Book Talk

Sat Oct 22, 4:30–6 p.m.
Author Margaret Rockwell celebrates the release of Faithful Friends: Norman Rockwell and His Dogs with an illustrated talk, Q&A, and book signing at the Norman Rockwell Museum. Throughout Rockwell’s career, strays, neighborhood pets, and his own loyal companions played leading roles in his visual storytelling. Margaret is the artist’s granddaughter by marriage and manager of the Norman Rockwell Family Agency. More info

Come Alive

Fri Oct 21, 4–8 p.m.
It’s Alive! Halloween festival in downtown Pittsfield will include vendors, live performances, an after-hours Zombie Pub Crawl for adults, and entertainment for all ages. There will be a Kids' Fun Zone on the St. Joseph Church lawn that includes games, a bouncy house, face painting, and activities from the Berkshire Museum, Berkshire Athenaeum, and Flying Cloud Institute. There also will be a Kids’ Monster Hunt and a night market. Remember to stop into Dottie's for lots going on there, too! More info

Pumpkin Roll

Sat Oct 8, 6–7:30 p.m.
Better Place Forests is carrying on the tradition of a Pumpkin Roll, passed down by its property's previous owner. In the small town of Florida, this annual Pumpkin Roll will include live music, festive goodies, games—and the rolling of pumpkins. Better Place Forests was featured in our Fall issue, in "What Better Place?"  More info

Ghost Writers

Sheffield’s brand-new Berkshire Bat Theater Company presents "Ghost Writers: Semi-Staged Halloween Readings" on the back lawn of the Bushnell–Sage Library. Local and NYC actors will present semi-staged readings and experimental puppet piece. The event is family-friendly, but the chilling content is best for folks aged 10 and up. The event is curated by Ed Valentine (four-time Emmy® winner, Sesame Street). Dress for the weather! More info

A Keg Toss & More

Sun Oct 23, 12–5 p.m.
Bousquet Mountain in Pittsfield is hosting an afternoon of music, food, drinks, games, and vendors. Games and prizes throughout the day, including a keg toss, stein holding competition, and more. There will be live music by Lush Honey, Jack Waldheim, and Them Bastards. Bring the kids for pumpkin painting, bobbing for donuts, storytime, and Bartlett’s Orchard Kid Corner. More info
